Carry 3914 DAO (NYPD Off Duty)

3914

A fantastic line of pistols. I just cannot understand why Smith couldn't bang out another run of these. Price them at whatever it would take to make a profit. They would sell

Just wondering, with those made as late as 2015, were they by chance Nitride stainless slides or just blued steel??

Rosewood

Good question as to Nitride. I too would like to know the answer.

I dont know the answer to that part of question, but I can account for 4 with Manufacture Dates provided by SW (suspect more like Shipping Dates) of 6-2015 thru 11-2015 and 1 from 10-30-2017 plus another 7 with Box Ends marked 061515 and 110215 thru 110715 - all with s/n in UCV to UCZ range.

There seem to have been several lots released (surplus after delisted for NYPD?) for retail sale through multiple distributors including one group in Baton Rouge, La as late as 2020.

It is unclear when the individual components for these were manufactured. Some were marked Houlton, ME with indented S/N on right of frame, Others were marked Springfield, MA with S/N on right, some indented, but the later ones were no longer indented. At least one UCU71xx with box end marked 011314 had a Houlton frame and a Springfield marked slide.

Speculation has been that these were either (a) manufactured in 2014-2015 per NYPD contract and either never delivered to NYPD or returned unissued - or (b) assembled as late as 2015-2017 from residual parts after the contract ended or was terminated.
