Personal preference is the .45, but I won't feel unarmed with a Browning Hi Power 9mm.

Either one works for me. There are plenty of cases of poorly placed shots from a .45 failing to stop an attacker. I don't think either gun is that much better with propper ammo and bullet placement. Carry whatever you shoot best under extreme pressure. I have been present during exchanges of gunfire and I never heard anybody complain about having too much ammo. When I was a young cop and worked in a high crime, urban environment, I would have gladly traded my issued M10 and dump pouches for a BHP and a couple of spare mags. I did carry a Combat Commander with ball at times though. Either works for me. I like the .40 also. Oh, and the .357 Sig and the .357 Mag and...

I'll take a .45 if its coming from the same size gun
I prefer, and carry the 45 ACP. I also carry 4 extra mags...
If I am on a hunting trip, I manytimes carry a 4" 4 Mag, as my CHL as when I get to the hunt it is what I will carry in the field.
I then put a "bunch" of speed loaders in my pockets, and carry a "little" bag full of speed loaders in the vehicle as well.
You NEVER want to run ut of ammo, trust me on this...
I have a few buddies, that got into shootings, both on and off duty, and ran out of ammo.... before the bad guy did.
A "gun" is WORTHLESS without ammo...

Same here. I find the Colt 1911 variation to be particularly comfortable to carry and use, and generally consider 22 rounds, or possibly 29, to be sufficient. In the rare case that I consider a need for more than 8 rounds without reloading to be a possibility (actually, I consider a need for a gun at all to be a fairly remote possibility, but still one to plan for), the BHP with two or three more mags would be my choice.

you know I had the same debate, so I went with the .40 S&W good penetration, not as high as the 9mm so no worry of over penetration and decent knock down plus as the shirt shows leaves a heck of a hole!

Kimber 4" pro Raptor. The Kimber mags hold 8+1 in the tube for 9 rounds in the gun. 8 more in a spare magazine on the belt. Federal 230 Grain Hydra shocks in gun and spare mag.
1911 is narrower then double stack guns, better for concealed carry for me. Have shot so many rounds thru 1911 it's second nature.
Can't beat a 1911 trigger IMO.
I have a Sig 238 on order for a pocket gun. 380acp. will have to see if it will be reliable and accurate enough for me to carry.

I'll take the 9, that's 5 more holes in the bad guy
I have a .357 Model 28 revolver that I carry. I think it is called Aim and Shoot, 6 rounds is good for me , if not I am in big trouble.

There are three pieces that I carry on a regular basis and according to what fits the moment,,,,
1. Glock 27 .40 S&W w/ 1 extra mag
2. S&W 36 38 Spl. w/ 2 extra speed loaders
3. Ruger LCP .380 w/ 1 extra mag.
The 36 is my favorite carry piece though!

We must have been separated at birth; I vary from that only with a Kel-Tec P3AT in place of the Ruger. +1 on the Chief's Special.

John, FWIW, I would take the 9mm any day. A thirteen shot 9mm can be made smaller than the .45, and modern ammo has gotten the 9mm to the point that it's street performance is in the same league as the .45 ACP. Being as I'm a revolver shooter, I carry neither.

My very first S&W was a Md# 37 Airweight That I would carry IWB or in a shoulder holster depending on the moment. I still have the 37 but later on in time I picked up the shorter 36. They both shot very well for me and felt comfortable to carry.
As for the Glock, I am not a Glock fan and picked up the 27 on a whim, fell in love with it and shot placement was remarkable. But the one thing I do not trust is the trigger safety.
The LCP just replaced a .25 Colt Vest Pocket that I would carry when nothing else would fit the need. I liked the lightweight and thiness.
But the 36 will always be my favorite as is the 37.
In fact I think for Christmas the 36 is going to get a set of Rosewood stocks!
