Carry when at home in your presumed "safe space"?

Carry 100% of the time when at home?

I sometimes carry at home...usually working outside.

Most times I don't, though. But there's a gun of some sort within reach in whatever room I happen to be in. Yes, even in the bathroom. Don't want to get caught with my pants down, you know?

I like to walk around the house in my tighty whities with my Old El Paso, Cheyenne rig and a Bisley Vaquero. My wife things I'm crazy.

Why not ask the question, in straight forward words, that can be simply understood? Why use, a rarely used word "imbibe"?

I usually drink a lot of coffee, is that what you meant?

Good lord  because to me it's not a word that is rarely used and straight forwardly asked what I wanted to know....I didn't realize I had to dumb it down for the folks around here, most seem to be fairly intelligent.

Those that carry in the home, do you ever drink alcohol while armed?

I carry most of the time when at home but it just depends and I have to use one of your don't use reasons.... for when I don't carry. I always have one very easily accessible.... for instance, right now I'm at my desk and there is a 45 shield in the drawer right below my right elbow. ;)

If I'm out in the yard, I always have one on me unless in the pool and then one is close by.

Just saw the question about drinking and carrying? Having a gin and tonic as a type...

This isn't "yes" or "no". I don't wear street clothes at home. If I have on something I can carry with like a hoodie then yes but right now my sweat shirt doesn't have pockets so the gun is on the end table next to my elbow.

Drinking and carrying, First, I promise you that question was the begining of the end for this thread.

Second I'm a friend of Bill's.

Safe at home?

I God hadn't wanted us to be armed all the time, we wouldn't have the J Frame Airweight!

I guess I'm one up on God because my "always carry" is my 360PD AirLite:

At one pound even, loaded and holstered, the 360PD is my primary weapon mostly carried AISW. I'll often carry a back-up for it, usually a 3G Smith of some sort, although my primary carry gun before was a Kimber "Custom Shop" Ultra CDP II in .45. Both are CT laser equipped, as I like a laser on a weapon for personal or home defense.

If I have to wear a suit, or tucked in shirt I'll ankle carry the 360, but it becomes back-up to a shoulder holster rig in the case of wearing a sports coat, or 4 o'clock carry if a light jacket can be worn.

For those of you who feel safe in your "nice" neighborhood that's where the lowlife's do their "shopping", sure, a lot of home invasions are drug related, where addicts hope to score drugs or cash. Professional's however, look to get into "upscale" residences because that's where the "goodies" are, and they are not afraid to hold you at gunpoint when they tell you to open the safe.

Keeping your gun on the nite stand beside your bed is good until you find a burglar who has defeated your alarms and picks up your gun while you are sleeping, they would rather shoot you with your gun than use their's.

Since some threats have been made as a result of some drug related firings I have done in the small business I own, I've started to always carry. That especially includes the home.

When I get home after a hard days work I can't wait to kick of my boots, slip out of my work pants and put on some sweats.

The real beauty of the 360PD's light weight is I don't even feel it on me anymore. When I put on my sweats the 360 goes into a cheap Uncle Mike's fabric holster clipped to the waistband of my sweats. It's so light that the elastic of my sweatpants is enough to hold it up.

Once it is up to body temperature I don't even feel it. I even sleep with it on. I'm figuring that even if I am being beaten awake I can find it and use it for contact shots. Call me paranoid if you like, but even paranoids have enemies. I have made some in my time.

I do take it off to take a shower, but it's right outside the shower door. If I have to take a dump it sits next to me in the bathroom while doing so.

I do have other options when at home. If I go outside to check on my vehicles or storage trailers I prefer a "long" gun with a light and laser on it, but the 360 is also on me.

As to "long" guns I prefer short ones, I have a Mossberg 12 ga. w/ pistol grip with a stream-light light and laser on it. Bringing that up to eye level to aim it means a black eye at best.

My preferred "long" gun is a Sig MCX in 300BLK, also light and laser equipped. When the paperwork and tax stamp goes through I'll get a suppressor for it, as the muzzle blast is like a flash bang if fired indoors.

Safety at home nowadays is a presumption we can't afford to make.

This needs to be addressed ...

... Just one question from me, please: anyone with young children and having guns close by or on person while at home?

I should note that my home is a child free zone. All weapons reside in a locked gun safe unless they are on my person or within arms reach.

When I take a shower it's the same, all loaded weapons, and they are all loaded, (except for the single bore 20ga. that's a wall hanger), go in the safe and it's locked before I leave the room.

Ammo is locked in another fireproof safe unless it's in a weapon I'm carrying or at arms length when I'm home.

The very last gun I want to be shot with is one I own.

As I sit here reading this thread I have a Ruger LC9S Pro in a pocket holster in the right front pocket of my pants. In the Metro Detroit area there is rarely a week when there isn't at least one home invasion on thenews and quite often there can be 5 or 6 in a week.

Those that carry at home, do you ever imbibe as well?
I would say - Start a new thread with this as a poll or just a regular question. I will answer in your new thread :D

I bet you will get a ton of answers and explanations. Could be a fairly contentious topic and I HOPE folks can be adult enough to debate and not yell and scream.

The only reason I will not answer in this thread is because it is a bit off topic.

Don't try to impose your morals on others. Possessing a firearm while drinking/intoxicated is perfectly legal in Missouri, as it is also perfectly legal to defend oneself with deadly force while intoxicated anywhere one may be, so long as you are otherwise possessing the firearm in a lawful manner. It is illegal to use a firearm in an unlawful manner while intoxicated.

I leave the morality of this others to decide. I have made that decision for myself, a long, long time ago . . .

(PS: Apologies to the OP. If you think it's off topic, it's off topic. I posted before I read your last post, thinking that carrying at home naturally lent itself to the question now at hand . . . )

OP- I, like Muss, thought it was a relevant question to the topic at hand and one I personally struggle with answering. I did not intend to derail your thread and will start a new one in the morning when I have access to a computer. My apologies!

Muss- No moral high ground here, was just an honest question that I would like to hear opinions on, though I know it's a contentious subject.

All- Please refrain from any more discussion of my question on this thread.

Goodnight all!

Not worried about the thread per se. I truly look forward to your new thread!

My 40c goes on my belt at about the 5 o'clock position right after putting my pants on in the morning and stays there till bed time ..

Only place/time its removed is at my doctors office during an appointment, I try to avoid any other locations that is gun free !!

I have 'layers' of security. A Steel fence on the perimeter on the front-yard and East side. On the West front, my neighbor has a 7 foot concrete block wall. At night I have 3 motion detector flood lights covering the front. Also fluorescent lights come on covering the front-yard, sides of the house. Rear and side windows are protected by steel bars and a steel screen door. My neighbors in back have three German Shepherds. Deadbolts on front and rear doors. The next to last layer is a Wireless home alarm covering all windows and doors. The last layer is a .40 S&W MP Shield and a .30 caliber M1 carbine. Hopefully the 1st, 2nd or 3rd layer will deter anyone. I live in a city 1 mile exactly from the Mexican border.

For some reason I am unable to predict when I will be in danger and need a gun, unlike many of you on here.

For that reason I always carry unless I'm in the shower or sleeping, both of which I have my gun nearby

Side note, I belong to another very popular forum for boating. In the past two weeks, a member in very good standing had home invasions while he was ate home and a second member in very good standing had an attempted home invasion while he was at home (used the ole doorbell ring let's chat, can we come inside to discuss further routine).

There was also another attempted home invasion about 4-5 weeks ago from a third member in good standing that someone came to one door while 3-4 others went to a second door.

It happens, stay safe!
