Carry when at home in your presumed "safe space"?

Carry 100% of the time when at home?

I'm surprised, as well. I thought the "always carry" number would be lower. Then again, more of that type are inclined to click on a thread with this title.

I am PLEASANTLY surprised as well. I bet you are right though. I probably skewed the results by phrasing it the way I did.

Sixteen years as an instructor I have had calls from former students
with stories to tell. Almost always starts with something like: " I never
thought anything like this would happen to me." It does happen at
places you never thought about, and at the worst possible time. If it
isn't on me there is a hideaway close by.

No, I don't carry inside my home. However, I have 5 convenient places for fast retrieval. Three are K frame 38s, one 686 and one 649-3. All are loaded with the same ammo and except for the one J frame, all are similar in size. My wife and I routinely go to all five places to stay familiar with what is there (I don't change their locations). I am also planning for a 6th location in my garage when I settle on the best place.

Always armed when I leave my house, when at home I'm always aware of the location of my nearest loaded firearm, bat or hockey stick. I also have four dogs that serve as great early warning detection units. There is a lot of personal satisfaction in the bat and hockey stick defense systems.

First I do not agree with your premise. There is no such thing as a "presumed safe space" in Today's world

Typically, I do not carry on my person in the House or Office. I like to kick off the shoes and pants so that I can slip into shorts and a T-shirt whenever possible

The alarm is in perimeter mode if I am inside either location.

However, there is a firearm (usually handgun) 3 steps from any point in either location. There is a 12 gauge next to my desk, bed, easy chair and in my study. There are also lever guns next to the bed and chair in the study.

If I am answering the door or going outside I always carry.

Almost 100% of the time. My new neighbor noticed my OC when I got home from the range and wants to learn about guns some time when his wife is away. I guess she's not okay with the idea.

I'm glad I don't have to hide things from my wife. Many years ago as we were starting to get serious I told her that from time to time I would probably go out to a "gentleman's establishment" with work friends. She thought about it and said she'd be OK with that as long as that was the absolute extent of such goings-on. I agreed we both lived up to our word. But it's been years since I engaged in such foolishness.

In the PDR of MA, the law more or less says on the bod or in the safe. While I disagree with making it a law, telling everyone else what they have to do, I fully agree with the law itself. Fortunate. While everything else is locked up, I always have at least one gun under my personal control, usually on my belt or in my pocket.

Better sorry than safe, or whatever.

TRUST ME, I agree there are no safe spaces. That is why I said presumed. I know it can happen anywhere at anytime!

When I get up in the morning and get dressed, a Ruger LCP goes in my pocket. Stays there until I go to bed. My experience as a cop, and as living in a rural area the last 20 years is that no home is safe from the actions of those who would do mischief and cause harm.

I live in a more-or-less urban apartment, and not in the safest of neighborhoods. Because I live in an apartment there is a limit to what I can do in terms of security layers, but I do what I can. So, based on your definition, I carry at home. I don't have an issue with comfort. While I don't sleep with my gun strapped to my side I have taken naps without issue.

At the very least there is a NAA 22 mag on me at all times. My edc is normally a glock 23, my yard or walking gun a governor.
SW revolvers rule!

I won't fault anyone for carrying within his own home. However, there are things you may do to make it far more difficult for an invader to kick in your door. Whether you have a $37.00 lock or a $300.00 lock, it's the door jamb that's going to fail.

Remove the 1" brass #8 screws holding the striker in place and replace them with 2-2 1/2' #8 brass screws that reach into the house framing around your doors. You should also remove one screw from each of the hinges and replace it with a long screw.

To do this, you'll need to drill an appropriate pilot hole, then soap the screws for easing their entry.

You'll need the gun when everything else has failed.

Said this before. I'm a locksmith. I secure homes and businesses for a living. My home is my sanctuary. My safe place. For me and my family.

I've taken the time to harden the perimeter of our home. You're not getting in unless you're invited or you drive your car through the front door.

Home should be the one and only place you can let your guard down a bit and rest your mind. And that's exactly what I have accomplished. I know the methods used to gain entry into someone's house. If someone tries to get into my house I will have plenty of time to get the wife to safety and grab a gun.

I don't worry about it. My mind is at ease.

In spite of my wife snickering and asking "Why are you wearing that thing, are you expecting trouble?", I wear it 100% of the time, or its within arms reach.

The notion of the "safe place" is a myth. I live in what is regarded as one of the top two safest cities in Michigan. I went on a ride along with the local PD a few months back and was surprised when the officer said we were going to swing through a certain neighborhood because they had a home invasion there two weeks ago. I have a friend that lives there and they had no idea!

I don't kid myself. My wife may think I'm overly cautious, but that's her problem. I carry at home all the time!

I am armed at home even though home invasions here are almost always drug related, and I have no involvement in that "lifestyle". There have been cases of mistaken identity or of getting the wrong address by the drug thugs. A former coworker experienced a home invasion by drug dealers demanding their money or their drugs back. They had the right address on the wrong street. It can happen elsewhere.

I do live in a city described by one study as the "most dangerous city in Texas." I do not feel unsafe, though.
