i bought this here on the forum a few years back for the owner of our local hardware store. they were the largest Case dealer in this part of the state for a long time. ownership changed last year and they are cutting back on the knives. i asked the new owner if i could buy it and he said yes. i've always wished i'd just bought it for myself but i wanted to help a friend. i believe it is from the WWII time frame and has seen some use. Had one from my Dad. It was issued to him during the Aleution campaign in WWII. He was a crewman on PBYs until he was reassigned to base duty. We used it when I was very young to cut our Christmas tree in the Capitan Mts. in NM. Disappeared during a move years ago. Bought one off eBay for $25 or so. Packaging arrived no machete! Found another, but no blade protector. Then the prices went high.
To me very handy size and shape. Great steel! One caution, edge is somewhat brittle, gets knicks if you hit a wire in the brush. So be careful if you use it!

This knife may still have b been in use in Vietnam.
Ethan Becker talks about how he combined this design with a kukri to come up with his BK4 Machax.

Don’t think any were procured after WWII.
Remember this was a Survival Kit item.
That means it wasn't usually ever used as long as it was a survival kit item.
I have one that is unused and still has some Cosmoline on it.
This is the only non folder in this type of Survival Machetes.
The other are all folders. I have one of those.
