Have any of you guys used the CCI AR Tactical ammo?

Just wondering if it is worth tracking down some or is it just hype. The description of this ammo at the CCI website states the following:

•Optimized for AR-style function and accuracy

I purchased some because it was on the shelf and affordable. It worked in my .22 Compact without issue. It was also a bit cheaper than the same quantity of Mini-Mags.

I shoot it in my 1522 and it does ok for accuracy and functions very reliably. It shoots very tight groups in my Clark Custom 1022. If I see for sale at reasonable price, I'll pick some up. You might check out Norma Tac22. It seems to more available then CCI AR Tactical 22 and about the same price.

Norma sucks compared to CCI. The Tactical stuff works great as far as function goes but its accuracy is so so. Especially past 50 yards. The best ammo for accuracy is Aguila Interceptor. The CCI Tactical will also function pretty well in a slide fire 15-22.

Shot 2 twenty round groups at 25 yards. One with Remington golden and the other with CCI. No comparison, CCI was much tighter.

Federal who makes CCI has just had a large layoff, their .22 stuff is going to become scarce again. I buy 3000-5000rds a week just to stash away for the drought. Ammograb.com is a great place to find ammo, starting from 5 cents a round. Right now most Hypervelocity stuff is scarce, and CCI Velocitor, Stinger, Polymer and Agulia Interceptor, and Browning BPR Performance are all reaching 20 cents a round. Because the buying frenzy is over the ammo is going to be scarce.

I've been shooting CCI AR-Tactical* in my S&W 15-22 rifle & Beretta .22LR pistol to excellent effect; very accurate for .22LR.

TargetSportsUSA online and my local gun store frequently sell 300 round boxes for under $30, ~$.10/round, for copper plated 40 grain round nose, my preferred load. I save used 100 round plastic cases from CCI, Winchester, etc. and reload them 50 rounds at a time from the plastic inserts in the 300 round box. I find the plastic slide boxes easier to load from & less likely to get crushed in my ammo bag. Since the inserts are standard, they slide right in the plastic cases.

CCI Mini-Mags are equally good as the AR-Tactical but are a bit more scarce in my experience. Same price when in stock at TargetSports.

*Funny name: the ammo has little to do with Arma-Lite & is not particularly "tactical" IMO.

Have used it in my 15-22. Accurate and no problems. I believe the velocity is slower than regular mini-mags. Don't see a lot of copper plated round nose .22lr. That may have something to do with accuracy. IMHO I feel that round nose .22lr are more accurate at longer distances than hollow points out of the15-22. I have had mine for 3 years and shot various brands and types through it.

Thanks for all of the info guys, if I happen to find some at one of the LGS around here guess I will try it out.

VaTom: I agree with you on the round nose.

Thanks Again,
Scott

I use it all the time. Never a single issue. Just discovered my local Wal-Mart had some in stock for $19.97 a box for 300 rounds - a great price.

Academy Sports in my area usually has the 300 rd cardboard box of the CCI AR-Tactical in stock for $24.00

AR-Tactical-40gr-1200fps
Mini Mags-40gr-1230fps
Swamp People-36grHP-1260fps

Plated bullets work best in my 15-22 and have yet to have a failure in it or an SR-22 using Mini Mags and AR-Tactical

One of the local Walmarts has the Mini Mags occasionally @ $6.89/100

These 3 are very close to being the same ammo with the HP being 4gr lighter and therefore a bit faster because of the hole.

I use the CCI Tactical as my match ammo for steel matches in my 15-22s. It feeds and goes bang reliably but there's nothing magical about it. I bought a bunch when I could find it when Mini-Mags were harder to find and I was saving the Mini-Mags as match ammo for my pistols. It's downloaded slightly compared to Mini-Mags and has a more hemispherical bullet tip shape than the pointer Mini-Mag bullet. It does stagger very nicely in 15-22 mags because of the bullet shape.

It may give "Excellent accuracy in AR-style .22 LR firearms (1.5 inches at 100 yards in factory testing)" but not in a 15-22.

I went through 2 full boxes without any problems. I do think they are a little expensive, and not always available, but I do like to treat my 15-22 to them once and a while.

I've used the CCI AR Tactical ammo in my 15-22 for Steel Challenge competitions. Manage to beat a few Masters every once in a while, even as a Super Senior. Never a problem in over 4 years of matches - just a problem with ME! Great ammo and available for $99.99/1200 rounds when on sale. Me likee!

The ar tactical has a very small difference in bullet profile compared to mini mags. Both feed just fine in everything I shoot them in ( no 15/22 in the house hat though) I have never owned a gun that showed it's best accuracy with any sort of high velocity ammo. Accuracy in a .22 is pretty much the sole domain of standard velocity ammo. It is a very rare occurrence for a .22 to shoot high velocity more accurately than standard velocity. I am not sure however that the most accurate 22 ammo ( standard velocity by companies like eley lapua or sk for example ) have the power required to reliably cycle the 15/22 action. I certainly prefer cci to other domestic brands by comparison outside of during the buy it or don't shoot panic I will not voluntarily buy Remington or Winchester 22 ammo. Federal is better but cci is by far the best domestic produced .22 ammo

I only shoot a M&P 22 Compact. I tried a variety of ammo excluding bulk. To date I have shotmibe 1500 rounds of CCI Mini Mag RN and HP ands Velocitor HP with it in four months. Amazing accuracy on all three. Not a single failure to feed, fire, or eject. No other ammo I tried performed that well. Inthinkmyou can trust CCI to perform according to its published specs.
