CCW 40c or Shield

I have both the 40c and the 9 Shield. If you are going to carry for any length of time, Shield is the way to go in street clothes. If you are trail riding, a 40c OWB is better suited. A loaded Shield is significantly lighter and easier to conceal. The 40c gives you more firepower when needed in the back woods on an ATV where weight is not as much of an issue. A HiddenHybridHolster is my preferred method of IWB carrying.

I too am smaller framed. (5' 7" 175 Lbs.) I carried a BG 380 for a while and switched to a 40C for EDC. I am left handed so I carry in the 7-8 O'clock position. I love it and can hide it well anywhere.

Do yourself a favor, get an Alien Gear holster. It's able to be worn with your shirt untucked or tucked in. After you wear it a day or two it will be broken in. After that you'll forget your wearing it!

Good luck and let us know what you decide on!

Fwiw, I carry my shield 9 in an onyour6 iwb holster around the 3 o'clock position and find it very comfortable. I'm 5'7 and 147lb on a good day and have no problem concealing. My wife even asked if I was carrying after we spent a couple hours at the mall. She had no clue lol. I'm considering a 9c to work as a HD and SD piece in our very short South Florida winter.

This mirrors my opinion. Both guns have their niche, with the nod going to the shield for IWB carry comfort but the nod going to the 40c for overall versatility.

If you can only get 1, I guess I'd go with the 40c. It absolutely can be carried deeply concealed in an IWB holster, but you also get the ability to throw the extended mag on and get a full sized grip, more ammo, and full size mags for backup.

Personally, I own and carry a shield, a 9c, a 9 full size. As stated, each has their niche and each gets carried based on needs and dress. I only carry my 9c and full size OWB, IWB carry goes to the shield.

If you think the 9mm and 40 are a little "snappy", what do you think a Shield 45 would be like? You seem to love Kahrs over S&W's. Shame on you.

About like a G36 (which I had for years and shot with no difficulty) or one of the XDs thingies.

A .45 is soft shooting, don't fall prey to the old "a 1911 will take your wrist off" thinking - it was never true.

Not much that hasn't been said already, but I carry both the 40c and the Shield IWB at 4:00. I shoot the 40c better but like to carry the Shield because of comfort. I end up using the Shield more in the summer since I wear lighter clothes and the 40c more in the winter. Days when i will not be carrying very long I grab the 40c and day when I know it will be a long day or lots of sitting I grab the Shield. BTW, when I say I don't shoot the Shield as well, I'm talking about an inch or two wider groups at 10 yards so I don't feel like I am giving up too much for the comfort - a few rounds and a few inches.
