CCW 48 states

Anything's possible in Hollywood. In real life, it's a little different. I don't think that NYC recognizes LEOSA, and I know that Chicago doesn't (Chicago requires annual training, but has no provision for that training). An federal LE can carry in the line of duty. For everything else, you can consult Handgunlaw.us.

Remember, in Hollywood style all guns must be registered, bullets can shoot through a bulldozer blade yet be stopped by a bible, and revolvers make a ratcheting sound when the cylinders are spun.

Hmmmmmmm?

It's not up to NYC to recognize LEOSA; it's Federal law. Ditto Chicago.

For the record, I carry regularly in both cities. Nary a problem.

You are correct that a Federal LEO can carry "on duty" anywhere...off duty carry is subject to law and agency policy.

Be safe.

I think NY is only recognized in NY state. Since NY does not reciprocate with other states, the others dont recognize NY.

I think with FL and Utah, you get about 37

MO and FL at least accept all CCWs (provided that it is a resident license in the case of FL)

Where do these stories come from? They just keep popping up and repeated by those who don't know yet they keep repeating it trying to sound like they know what they're talking about. They don't.
NYC recognizes LEOSA. So does Chicago. So does every other city, state, territory, and possession of the US. Think about it and you'll see just how silly it is to say such and such place doesn't "recognize" federal law. Anyone who passed 8th grade civics class would know federal law is the supreme law of the land. There is nothing in LEOSA that permits locations to exempt out of LEOSA.
Chicago, or any other city/location, doesn't have to have a provision for training. That has nothing at all to do with "recognizing LEOSA." Read LEOSA and you'll see that if the retiree's dept does not have qualification for their retirees then the retiree can get the qual shoot done by any qualified LE firearms instructor or in the state where the retiree resides. A whole lot of retired CPD and NYPD LEOs do the annual quals. There is no "recognition" part required. Qualified retirees and active LEOs can and do carry in Chicago, NYC, and any other city.
Let's put this "city or state (fill in the blank) doesn't recognize LEOSA." to bed. Those who claim such just show they don't have a clue what they're talking about either concerning LEOSA or federal law.

Spot on, ispcapt! Yet again folks post patently FALSE information that may get Forum members in trouble. (Not necessarily this info but clearly other false/erroneous info has been posted.)

Perhaps there should be a Forum Ombudsman who will sift data and remove false info. And posters should be held accountable. e.g. A while back a poster stated that LEO's could NOT testify to EXCULPATORY evidence/facts. When legal data was offered, there was no retraction (or excuse) offered.

Bad.

Be safe.

ispcapt,

Perfect!! Nice post!! If some would just slow down and read the law they would get it. It's been federal law since 2004 with the amendment, (S1132) signed by President Obama on 10/12/10. I've been maintaining my annual qual and have had no problems with any LEOs. You may become slower in retirement but you don't become stupid.

Stay safe brothers and Sisters!!

Tom
