My wife and I just moved to Canton. I wish to get the ccw permit in case of travel or bypassing the Brady and saving the $25. Where can I physically go for a class? Are there any outdoor ranges where I can do my own thing? Any good indoor ranges? Thanks for the replies.

Good luck, Dgfrtsgt. No help from me other than bumping your thread back to the top. I suspect there are members here from your area.

I have no familiarity with things in that area, sorry. However I have a pretty good grasp on concealed carry in Ohio.

Definitely a good idea to get your license however I wanted to respond to the portion of your quote that I underlined.

Bypassing the Brady and saving the $25 is an odd series of terms and just to be clear about things, I'm not sure anyone has referred to it as "the Brady" since back to the 1990's. ;) There is a provision in Ohio law where it is possible to skip the NICS check if you have a valid Ohio License to Carry a Concealed Handgun, however this is an opt-in program that only some FFL's choose to exercise.

For example, the largest dealer in Central Ohio (possibly the largest dealer in Ohio...) will not, and not ever use this route. It is at the discretion of the dealer and Vance's has no use for it and won't participate.

Also, I'm not sure what you are referencing about "saving the $25." Even back in the early 1990's when the Brady Bill first went in to effect, the background check was a $5 fee and has since be removed entirely with the advancement of the NICS system which has no cost.

If you are referencing a $25 fee for inbound FFL transfer, that is no set price, it's up to the dealer and ranges from $15 to $100 depending on who's handling your transfer.

Finally, even the dealers who choose to opt-in and allow you to skip the NICS check will still have you fill out the 4473, that's not something you are allowed to skip and no dealer does an inbound transfer for $0 fee.

I hope this helps a bit and feel free to ask any questions or re-word your hopes and concerns with regards to the Ohio CHL.

Call a local gun shop and inquire .

This, of course. Why in the world would you go to an international online forum to ask something you could find out immediately, and accurately, in your own town with a single phone call?
