Welcome to the forum.

No easy answer. Body type, wardrobe, firearm, activity, are some factors to consider. Don't forget ankle, pocket, belly band, holster purse, and shoulder holsters

OWB My Choice

Shadey: I can't imagine sitting in a car wearing a K-Frame or 1911 in an IWB holster! Tried it & the barrel dug into my leg/groin area. Perhaps a different result if concealing a J-Frame. I use anyone of three different sized OWB Enhanced Pancake holsters from Lobo at 3 O'clock strong-side, regardless of the outside temp. Either a sweatshirt-jacket over the holster in cold WX or a lightweight shirt pulled out of my pants over the holster in hot temps.

Best of luck to ya', Hank M.

I agree with Hang-Fire Hank. Size of the weapon and the weather are the big reasons for NOT carrying a weapon. Talk to as many of your friends that carry a weapon (legally of course :) and gather opinions based on actual reports. Good luck.

Shield fits well iwb. Full size, not so much but doable.

First WELCOME to the group , and holsters choice varies, I favor a Kydex holster or a Hi bread Kydex /leather like Alien Gear, but for my my Kydex Jel Tech is my favorite!

You have alot of good advice here :) As mentioned size does matter to some. Your body size can be a factor as well. I carry a 9mm Shield and my F/S Ruger SR9E in a Jel Tech IWB in a Kydex Holster, more then my A.G. holster
for 25$ a great deal
JelTecHolsters – Budget Minded Products

and Alien Gear Holster are also a good deal.around They have a good 2 fer deal so you can get a IWB and a OWB .around 50/60$ You can also buy extra shell to fit other hand guns you have
Concealed Carry Holsters - Alien Gear Holsters - Gun Holsters

You may also need a box for the extra holsters you buy until you find one that fits you they way you like.

So many options. There is no one perfect holster or piece of advice that applies equally to all situations. I can, and did, comfortably carry a full-size 5" steel 1911 IWB for years. The right gear, especially a TRUE gun-belt, makes all the difference. If this is your first foray into CCWing, IWB is probably going to feel really weird and uncomfortable. I suggest you only buy holsters that have a trial period (full-return policy), otherwise you will be stuck with holsters you don't like (no matter what the maker claims about "everyone liking his work" - you will be the one that doesn't). For that reason, I recommend Comp-Tac, FOXX, or Blade-Tech for good quality, easily ordered/received, affordable, and excellent customer service. Milt Sparks doesn't have those return policies, but I love 'em and they are considered one of the premier leather makers available (and the way I comfortably carried a 1911 for over a decade) and people are always looking to buy one quickly, even if slightly used, since there is about a 3-month wait. Shopping at a company/store that allows you to try on and/or return will also be helpful.

From the options below, I would sign up for and wait for a Comp-Tac coupon, then buy an M-Tac and 1 IWB mag holder (for CCW), a Paddle Holster and a dual OWB mag holder (for range/training/competition), and a belt. Or, for a little less money, order the holster/mag combos from FOXX and a belt from Wilderness Tactical. Happy shopping.
