So far, 91,000 CCW permits have been issued in Illinois. It became legal in Jan 2014 and none issued 'til March 2014. Aprox 24,000 were issued in Cook County where in lies Chicago . State plolice are still taking Months to process applications for FOID cards(gun ownership permits), CCW taking 3Mo.s
Chicago has an upcoming mayoral election.
I have not heard a word of anti gun talk from any candidates.
Seems like the people have made themselves heard.

I am an Illinois CC instructor and spent the better part of nine years helping in the fight to get a carry law passed.

The law still needs a lot of tweaking but that has been true oif every State when they first passed concealed carry.
We have been fortunate in that there hasn't been any major mistakes made by permit holders so the Chicago media can't yell and scream and point fingers.

But, don't think for a moment that they have given up. they are still busy trying to either get rid of the law or make it even more restrictive.

The only reason there are only 91,000 permit holders after the first year is the costs are prohibitively expensive. The cost of sixteen hours of mandated training added to the $150.00 application fee plus the cost of digitalized fingerprints and range fees to qualify put a concealed carry permit out of the hands of the people who probably need to exercise the right the most.

But the fight goes on. If you live in Illinois please consider joining IllinoisCarry.com. it's free and we are the people who pushed concealed carry through in illinois.

Thank you for all you have done sir!! I have joined Illinois carry, have yet to find a ccw class in my area, but still looking.

You are absolutely right BudMan5.
To the cost you already stated is the cost of a gun.
Also, if you live in Chicago, you must travel to the suburbs to take your CCW test. For most in the city this is a big inconvenience.
Anything to make it difficult and expensive.

I live right across the river, and it's a shame Il. doesn't reciprocate my CCW so when I need to cross the bridge I can continue to use my 2nd amendment rights.

im from Illinois, my wife and I received our permits last march. it had been a long time coming. I have exercised my right everyday since.
so glad to be able to finally carry

With the cost of a class plus the state fees figure $500 for the permit. Many of the places I go restrict carry. For me, a CCW permit means I can keep my weapon in my car.

The real shame is while all of the CCW activity was going on that the General Assembly passed a law that requires all private firearms transfers to be approved by the ISP. So, now all private firearm sales and trades have to go through the ISP website or a FFL.

I have sold a few since they past that law, the only thing I did different then from before is call and make sure the buyers foid card was valid. the transfer is still private.
I guess im lucky in central il, in 10 months I have only had to disarm when I was doing some work at a court house or county building. everywhere else I have worked at or visited as been ok to carry

Hey Budman,

I'm retired LE and doing the Irocc thing. Live in il. Wife wants to get ccw but goes from il to mo to work. I heard mo may soon recognize il ccw. What would be the best way for her to do ? Get both? Have you heard of mo going to recognize il cc?

when you have the opponent in your grasp........do NOT let go until he/she is counted out or submits...............

NEVER give up the fight............

search on line at such sites as USA Carry, and find a map of states that recognize Il. CCW. Il. is recognized in about 20 states incl. Mo. Every state around Il. recognizes Il CCW plus many others.

I would guess that your wife could only get a permit in her own state. In Oklahoma you have to start the permit process at the office of your county sheriff [for your official county of residence].

The final permit is issued by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, usually after they decline your fingerprints two times, from two different authorities. Once you get two declines for "Poor quality prints", you can go to their office and get prints made that they will accept.

Interesting article about Oklahoma permits:

One more comment- Oklahoma recently added "Open Carry" to their permit.

This article updates numbers for all states:

IL CCW

My wife and I both exercised our rights to carry. I then got permits for Florida and Utah. It is hard to swallow that our constitutional rights cost me close to $1000 to carry.

I live in both States. Missouri recognizes all concealed carry permits from every State that issues one so she is good to go in Illinois and Missouri with an Illinois permit. I try to always cite a source when I post something I believe is factual and here is a link to the Missouri Attorney General's page which confirms what I just posted:
