In south Texas we have 2 seasons, summer & spring. The weather dictates whether I carry my Shield 9 or M&P 380.

Primary concealed carry, since the early 90s, is a 3913NL.... 90% of the time...... 7+1+ 8rd extra mag.

I sometimes use a 3914(fall/winter) or a PC 6906 (12+1+15 second mag w/ +2) if I want a hi-cap

Every so often...... my Beretta 92 Compact M (single stack 8+1+8) w/ a D-spring or my 92 Compact (13+1 +17)........both great guns but just a little large vs. a 3913/14 for year round concealed carry.
I consider the Compact a "small duty size gun"

All traditional double/single action... w/ decocker in the same location....all worn in Sparks Summer Specials at 4 O'clock.

If I want/need a .45 I go to a Sig 245...... w/ a Sparks at 4 O'clock

If I'm wearing a Tux........ a customized Interarms PPK in .380....... I've had since before the 3rd Generation Smiths were born.........

I need a tuxedo gun . . .

My response is one because I carry the same handgun for personal defense every day. I have other handguns in the home, I usually have a second handgun secured in my vehicle, and I always have several around the shop (primary use is holster making, but they are all fully functional and kept loaded as a matter of personal habit over many years).

Camping trip, fishing trip, hunting trip will usually find a .22 Kit Gun in a vest pocket. Road trip will usually include a carbine and/or shotgun in the vehicle.

One always. Another one within a minute's access, just about always. Several accessible if necessary, pretty much all the time.

Now if you catch me in the shower I would have to get back to the bedroom before being armed again (an ugly sight, to be sure). Business at the courthouse or other government building, I would have to get back to the gun safe in my truck.

I also carry a spare tire, flashlight batteries, charged jump-start box for the truck, light bulbs, fuses, lighter or matches, and a few other things that might require redundancy in supply.

When I can carry I always carry my 642-1 in my front pocket. If I leave the home I carry a second. It will depend on where I'm doing and what I'm wearing. It could be my 40c, LC9S, LCP or NAA 22mag.

I carry a 3914 most of the time.

A 442 is usually with me around the house, and gets some "weekend" carry.

A Kel-Tec .380 is with me when I run, or if I'm wearing light shorts in the summer.

They all get shot pretty regularly.

Everyone should have one....LOL... my wife's phone has the Bond theme as "my" ringtone.......... first time I heard it.......I was ROFLMAO!!!!!!

The PPK was my EDC/Suit gun,( weekends I went from a 2.5" 19 to a 4" Diamondback ( way cool but had timing issues) to a 3" customized 65); in the mid to late 80s...... when the 3913s came along I got (and still have an early one) one and it replaced them all as my primary concealed carry gun.....

.... later the NLs came along; I added Hogue checkered wood grips and I've been good to go for ............25 years!!!!

The Colt's Vest Pocket Pistol makes a nifty little tuxedo gun.

I just put a third gun in my rotation. My first pistol was an M&P9C and I carried it religiously, then I really wanted a 357 and a bigger gun so I got a charter arms target bulldog. Only holds 5 shots so I flip flop between those two depending on if I feel like more power or more rounds on any given day. I just picked up my mod.645 Tuesday so I've been carrying that daily since. Once the weather warms up depending on how my holster works with warm weather clothing I may carry it might not... Once I rebound from buying the 645 I might get something else and throw that in the mix.

Gawd, don't I hate the term "carry rotation", the inference that you would carry a particular gun just because it's the one that comes up in the rotation for that day bugs the hell out of me.

I only carry 1911s and J frame snubbies but I have several 1911s in different sizes, weights, and calibers that I choose from depending on what I'm doing, what I'm wearing, or where I'm going. I have a railed 1911 that is a dedicated home defense gun. They're all similarly set up as far as trigger pull, sights, etc..

I voted three, but it comes down to whatever I feel like carrying- 1911, 1076, or XDs. Rarely I go with a .38 taurus snub if I'm in a hurry, and even more rarely I go with a 9mm.

I decided about 6 months ago to stop “rotating” carry guns and limit myself to either an M&P Shield or an M&P 9.

Hick’s Law postulates that the more variables you add to the decision making process the longer it takes you to make a decision and act on it. So if I add variables by carrying different guns in different locations in different types of holsters with varying levels of retention all I’m really doing is adding to the menu options I have to go through in my mind before acting in a self defense scenario. My brain has to answer a series of questions before I can even start to draw my firearm.

Eliminating variables makes anything a human does more consistent and reliable. By definition if I’m in a self defense situation I’m already behind the curve. Every step I have to take to prepare to and defend myself is an opportunity for something to go wrong. Every step or decision that I can eliminate increases the odds in my favor.

It's my belief that the more I practice with my carry gun the better I'm going to be with it under stress. The fewer variables in my equipment the faster I'm going to draw, the less chance of a mistake or hesitation, and the better my chances of survival. I have completely eliminated the variable of what I'm carrying, where, or how. It's always exactly the same. I'm better prepared to defend myself as a result.

Good post, Smoke. That's why I go with 1911s, whichever one I carry it's the same as the others, one platform, one gun.

When I used the word "rotation", I didn't mean it indicate a fixed schedule of cycling sidearms on a regular basis. Rather, I meant multiple revolvers/semis in a person's collection that are routinely carried, as opposed to a single CCW.

Personally, I shoot my CCW J-frames the same, so carrying one vs. another is a moot point. The difference comes when I have the 624 or 65 with me, although I shoot those both quite well also.

I have a 1911 Commander that I carry. If it's not available for some reason, I have a 1911 full size. I also have a M&P 45, but it works exactly the same as the 1911.

I'm with Smoke on this one. Simpler is better.

I don't have a carry rotation either, but my usual carry gun is my Ruger LCR followed by my XDs (45) and finally my Glock 30. I carry the LCR far more than the others.

My usual carry is a 640-1 in the waistband and a 337ti on the ankle. I have a speed strip in each side pocket...Both are loaded with the same ammo. The operation of both is identical since the 337 has the hammer bobbed and is DAO. Both have fiber optic, tritium front sights and same stocks...I practice right and left handed draws and shooting with them...I don't think regularly changing types of carry guns is a good idea.
