Cell phone, concealed or open carry

My daughters are fond of telling me, "Dad, a cell phone is not a fashion accessory!"

Ouch. That was me in high school/college, but it was a slide rule, not a calculator. You forgot the black horned-rim glasses, crewcut and white shirt/skinny tie. Did I mention the briefcase?

Yup - my cellphone is in a belt holster.

I've carried a cell phone for 15 or so years, and I still don't like them. I started with "open on the belt carry", but quickly switched to C.C.P. as I got tired to total strangers asking me to let them use my phone.
 
I carried a Razr flip phone in a belt holster for 7 years and no problem. I got an iphone 4s for Christmas and haven't figured a way yet to be comfortable carrying it.

I guess I need to get me a new suit that fits so I can carry it in my pantses.

Did that sound right?

The question is....do you carry cocked and locked, thereby living in constant fear of the dreaded "butt dial"? Or does your phone have safety features to ensure that it can never happen?:cool:

How do I carry my phone? What phone, I don't have any phones, I lost all mine in a boating accident years ago... Oh, oh, we're talking phones, not guns...

OK, I'll play. First, I'm sorry, but I find it straight-up goofy to carry a phone on a belt holster. Of course, for those that do carry this way, it looks really cool on you. ;). I'm sure it's more practicle/convenient on the belt, and I'd imagine a skirt must be more comfortable than pants, but I'm not going to wear one... I've got an iPhone 5, it's very slim, and I carry it in my front shirt pocket, or inside suit coat when working. Off duty, I carry in my back pants pocket.

This being said, me and Mrs. DMAR took the kids to the mountains a few weeks ago, and a group of us went sledding. So long story short, back pocket carry is not recommended when sledding; cracked glass! I don't mess around, I sled hard! Had to buy a replacement iPhone, not happy. YMMV.
 
i hate carrying. "they" always want to look at it and talk about it.

I carry mine cocked and locked in my front pocket. I know you all will think I'm crazy. It could go off and end up dialing Japan. But danger is my middle name.

When I was working I used to carry it clipped to my front pocket, but now that I am retired it usually sits on the kitchen counter. If I go out I will take it and just slip it in my pocket or I leave it in the car consol. Since retiring I actually went backwards and got a small, cheap cell phone that basically only make calls - and I no longer need a big iphone or Droid. I now view a cell phone as an "anchor" and really don't want to be bothered when at the Range, boating, eating, etc. When I was in business it was essential - but not now. :)
 
I got on this band wagon late in life. I refused to get one. After my HA, the MS really nagged me to get one. Something She just wasn't in the habit of doing. So------- I picked up one in WM and went on my way. A couple things happened, one, it never worked when needed, two, my plan gave me X # of minutes a month, which were never used up and were supposed to roll over. I discovered they were not giving me my minutes and called them on it. Their response was more or less, so what,. It went in the trash, and a couple years ago the MS decided to get us a couple I-phones. I carry mine in a front pocket of jeans or shorts, with the screen facing my body. In the car, I am still trying to get in the habit of having it out where it can be reached easy, if needed. A lot of hi tech for an old guy, but I even have an app that I can figure reloading costs on. :) Oh yes, it works just about everywhere I go. :) In the Winter, or cooler weather, I have some shirts from GM, no longer sold that have more or less hidden front pockets-- it rides there at that time of the year. Back in the old days I lost too many things like lighters, etc. when bending over, and learned better than that. :)

Simple little flip phone, no worries about butt-dialing. It'll take pictures, connect to the internet, text, play a few rudimentary games--and I don't do any of that. It's a phone, for heavens' sake! I don't like receiving texts and won't send them. I have illness in my family, so when I'm away from home I usually forward the land line to the cell, but the phone is for emergencies. I won't talk on it when driving, much less answer a text.

Like others here, I wear shorts, mainly cargo type, this time of year. Phone goes in the cargo pocket or dedicated cell phone pocket. Otherwise shirt pocket or off-side pants pocket with the knife and keys and rescue inhaler--the holstered J-frame is in the right pocket. I have done the trick of carrying two speed strips in a cell phone case, adding a little flat Gerber lock-back knife. It works well.
 
I'm not smart enough to own let alone use a smartphone. I carry my flip-open cell phone nerd-style, in a Maxpedition cell-phone pouch clipped to my nerd belt, OTWB appendix carry.
If I'm in a rough part of town I wear my shirt outside of my trousers to conceal my cell-phone so nobody knows that I'm carrying.

I do NOT have a smart phone. My favorite US Cellular rep smiled at me sweetly and said "Jim, you have a DUMB phone".:cool: I can live with that. I use my phone to make and take calls and the occasional text. Also use the calculator, and the calendar is the only way I ever remember anything.

The smart phones do not really have a belt carry option, they're too big. Plus they are always "butt dialing" somebody. Not so with my flip phone. I use my phone a lot. It can ring 24/7, and does. Could be an employee or a client. Could be my answering service with a new client. Only time I won't answer it is if I'm talking to a client or am in the the shower. (I used to say "If I'm in the shower, and talking to a client", but that sounded kinda bad:D). I need my phone constantly accessible, so belt carry is the only option for me. Missus Fan bought me about 25 of the plastic belt clip holders because they break really easily.

I have a dream. Someday, I wanna break my phone with a ball-peen hammer, and never get another one. Ain't gonna happen this side of the Pearly Gates.:mad:

If the shirt I am wearing I carry the phone in a shirt pocket otherwise it's carried in the Left front pant pocket,I hate belt clips & holsters
 
I always keep mine concealed....With the ringer on silent (safety).

Don't want it going off accidentally....Alls by it's self. ;)

Don't laugh at the picture "Xtasy" posted. Some of todays 'smart phones' are almost as big. In fact a lot of them are too large to carry concealed or in a belt holster. A shoulder sling might work well. Haven't seen any with a laser or bayonet lug....Yet.

Radio Shack does sell a very small 'flip phone' with no games, camera, GPS, or other trick stuff. Pretty much just makes phone calls $14.95 locally.
 
The only phone that ALWAYS comes wtih a nice leather case anymore.


Blackberry.

I had a Bold 9930 touch sceen that still had the keypad. Came with a leather case.

Just bought a z10 full touch screen. Also came with a leather case.

Have owned 20 blackberries. Every one has had a case :-D.

Also just bought a Motorola droid razr M.......didnt even come with headphones :/ haha
 
I don't have a carrying case for my iPhone 5 I have a Mophie battery case that works fine for me. I recommend the Mophie battery cases for the iPhone user.
 
GF and I have been gun show pards for about 8 years now and I've still got the same flip phone that he programmed his number in back in about 2006 at either a Salem or Seymour Nat'l Guard Armory show that Tom Allman promoted. I seldom carry it unless it's a gun show or road trip but it works fine and the battery is the original. Never been tweeted or twittered on. I carry it in a my left front pocket
