Census picture for CCW holder?

Talked to a eldery woman friend of my wife and I today,and she told us her neighbor came over and told her the census taker wanted to take his picture because he has a CCW permit.We live in a rural area in northern California.My wife and I have known this women for 30 years and is a very honest person.She would have absolutely no reason to make this up.Maybe she got her wires crossed or the guy BS'ing her.Has anybody else heard anything like this?I put nothing out of range for the people who run the goverment now days.

I know of no reason why a census taker would "need" to take a photo of anyone for any purpose.
They won't be given permission to take a photo of me when they come to my door.

In fact, you can't buy anything at wallyworld without it being on camera.

Talked to a friend on Thursday and his wife caught a census taker looking in the windows of the houses on the property and opening the doors and looking into the shop buildings.

She told the guy to leave and he said he had to be a certain distance from each house to set the GPS. More BS coming from our gooberment.
 
Mike, was this guy county, state or federal? I know census should be federal, but the census starts in 2010, not May 2009.

That type of activity scares me. We already have street addresses, why does any government agency need to have GPS coordinates on homes.

If they say it's for the fire department, my response is that the FD should go to the house with smoke and fire coming from it.

I tried to word this post carefully.Don't you think calling me a liar a little harsh.It may not be accurate,I thought I made that clear.But me unlike some people know very little for certain.If you think it's not true,good.I probably agree with after reading what other people thought.thanks PJ
 
Doug, I should have been clearer in my statement. This gal was one of the pre census people going around to get all the GPS coordinates for the census takers.

Yep.

We live in a semi-rural area and had a similar occurance last week:

An individual was looking into our pole barn and then came to the door, rang the doorbell, identified himseld as being with the Census Bureau and asked my wife if we had a "mother-in-law suite." My wife told him "No" and he indicated that was all he needed to know. The man was wearing sport clothes, a name badge around his neck and carrying a handheld device similar to what the UPS delivery people use.

Did not sound right to me, so I called the local Sheriff's Department. Detective agreed that it didn't sound right, so he called the "regional office" in Chicago, who verified that the individual and question was indeed legitimate.

The detective and I joked that it might not always be prudent to go poking around on private property without the owners knowledge or permission. Some of us like to shoot our BB guns out behind the barn.

Yep, the census worker I talked to said in their training they were told to look for any and all structures that might in any way be used to house someone. Further, they were told to ignore no trespassing signs and that it was ok to go through an open gate or open an unlocked gate, but not to climb over/under a closed AND locked gate.

Reminds me I need to train my family in how to respond to that question should I not be here when the census person arrives. I sure hope I am here and get to interact with said worker.

Sounds like the Census Bureau are trying to get census takers killed.
 
We had a similar "guy" with a big sign that said Census along with a name badge and a hand-held piece of equipment. We live in a relatively new area on the edge of town. He was standing in front of every house for a minute or two, and fiddling with the piece of equipment. I went out to challenge him, when he turned around and I saw the sign and name badge. He explained he was entering the address in the GIS system, so the census takers could locate everyone. I know we hadn't been in the GIS previously as I tried to locate my house. I did verify with the association secretary that he had permission.
 
All of this sounds like a great scam. You can Google earth every home in the country and obtain the GPS coordinates.

I have only had 2 Jehovah Witness's show up at my homestead once. 4 dogs me shirtless with a big belly and a M-66 on my hip.

If that isn't scary, I don't know what is.

Doesn't sound right to me either. This leaves the door open to any scam or rip-off artist to phony up some sort of ID then wander around poking into barns, not to mention trying to find houses with unlocked doors, where elderly people are living by themselves, etc.
 
Yep, they came by my place in Michigan last week - wanted to verify my address for the census. I just politely told them to get lost, that I had no intention of participating.
Sorry - I don't see any reason that I should.

I love my country, but fear my government more and more every day.
