So I have both a CSX-E and the newer X Shield pistols which have a flat wound recoil springs on a solid guide rod with what looks like a 6 sided bolt/screw capping it that holds the spring on the rod.

I find the recoil spring on the CSX-E is a little weak as I can shoot my steel challenge PCC 9mm ammo out of it and the gun functions completely where all my other 9mm pistols always get jams, stove pipes and failure to lock back at the last round. when trying that ammo in them.

So while I was ordering a stainless steel guide rod W/Spring for my BG 2.0 from Galloway Precision I saw they had a +10% recoil spring for the CSX but Spring Only. So I set out looking for a U-Tube, or written, guide on how to disassemble the guide rod on any S&W semi auto and there was none that I found. This is the top, muzzle end, of the guide rods from the CSX and the Shield X.
It is a screw that holds the recoil spring on the rod and I was able to unscrew it by holding the spring down slightly with a small pair of vise grip pliers and clamping the base of the rod in my small bench vise then using a small crescent wrench to turn that 6 sided screw out.

What I found surprising was there was NO guide explaining how to do this. Multiple Google searches turned up nothing except how to Field Strip X, Y or Z S&W pistol.
