I won't buy from Cheaper Than Dirt because of their past price gouging.

So, I don't feel to bad for anyone who does get hosed by their pricing.

I have not used them since last shortage, and never will. They are the lowest type of predator. I have a sign in the shop to Boycott them for * years. Be Safe,

Whatever the market will bear. Personally, I hope they're driven out of business but that's just me. Their reputation has been terrible since Sandy Hook.

They taught me a valuable lesson though, even though I never purchased their stock. I have enough ammunition to defend myself but won't be visiting the range for a while.

Hey Rockquarry-
Who are you to determine what is prevalent and whats not? This a forum with open topics if someone has a question its prevalent to them. We are all not as asstute as you o these topics. If you don't like the question bypass it. Simple as that.

Jim- I'm astute on nothing and don't pretend to be. This was a list prepared in a sort of mockingly/humorous way but also with a bit of seriousness. If I included any real inaccuracies, please advise. It wasn't intended to offend the easily offended or anyone else, and for that, I certainly apologize to you and others that might have seen the remarks in the same way you did.

Additions to the regular and semi-regular threads that many like to expound on, no one solves, and some get hurt feelings. Other strongly opinionated topics include:

^ 30-06 vs .308 Win as top game cartridge
^ penetration testing 9 MM boutique ammo vs 4 ACP 230 gr FMJ
^ does .223 Rem vs 5.56 NATO offer better accuracy
^ loading 357 mag to 38 Spl velocity to avoid cylinder burns
^ best overall game cartridge for North America 243 Win vs 300 H&H
^ which defensive pistol should I buy my wife 40 S&W or 357 Sig
^ where is all the 22 LR plinking ammo
^ saving money by reloading
^ the best first gun to buy

I could not resist!:D

wiki definition says:

As of January 2019, 34 states have laws against price-gouging.[3] Price-gouging is often defined in terms of the three criteria listed below:

1. Period of emergency: The majority of laws apply only to price shifts during a declared state of emergency or disaster.
2. Necessary items: Most laws apply exclusively to items essential to survival, such as food, water, and housing.
3. Price ceilings: Laws limit the maximum price that can be charged for given goods.

Some states that do not have a specific statue addressing price gouging, can nevertheless apply the law as an "unfair" or "deceptive practice" under a consumer protection act.

----------
Is ammo as essential as food, water, and housing? Most of us could survive for 3 days without ammo. None of us could survive without water.

I hate price gouging as unethical behavior. I was at Katrina for 3 months and developed a real dislike for gougers.
However, my son disagrees. He says charging for water in the desert to a dying man is gouging. Anything else is business.

I got in this hobby several years ago when .22 ammo was non existent or overpriced. And of course my first gun was a 22 lol. But based on principles, I refused to pay over what a normal retail price range should be. If that meant I went some time here and there without rounds To go shooting with then so be it. And on the flip side, when i would be in a store that had some, I didn't grab every single box in sight. Thinking (some naivety there) that if I left a box the next guy could honestly use it.
So fast forward to now, I wouldn't go pay someone’s gouged pricing when I have no place to go shoot anyway. So whether TP, ammo or whatever; i will accept minor increases that can be tied to higher production costs, rush transit to market etc but if it isnt close to normal then i wont support that seller.

By your logic there is no such thing as 'price gouging' - it's all just simple capitalism.

Keeping/losing customers is not just a matter of pricing. Piss them off - they leave and they never come back. They tell other people and those people never even walk in the door. Good business owners understand this.

If their model of price-gouging during tough times is working for them, then fine. But they've obviously upset some potential customers who not only won't buy, but have told me and now I won't buy. I say "tell everyone" and let's kill as much of their business as possible.

Now it's no longer about price, right?

I started and ran my own business for 48 years...trust me ...
... It's all about the price !!!
I did good work for guys for years...but if they could find someone to do it $0.05 cents cheaper ...they were gone ...
...It's all about the price !

Just curious.
When people ordered the rifles from CTD did they pay and doesn't that make a legal contract?
Could they be taken to court, even small claims?
Class action?
Never did business with them or ever will.
