If I still had all the S&Ws I've owned over the years I could dazzle you folks with an impressive collection. Unfortunately, like so many of us gun folks I sold off this and that to finance something else, and it wasn't limited to Smiths either (smile).

Got out of guns for a few years when my disability got to where I couldn't compete in practical pistol shooting anymore. I had been active in that since 1975.

I only have two Smith's right now.

First is a 3.5" M27-2 that was pretty beat up when I got it but now sports a round butt and bead blast finish.

Second is a 4th Model Hand Ejector from right after WWII that was also a basket case when I bought it. Someone had chopped off the 6" or 6.5" barrel at about 3-1/4" with a dull hack saw. Then welded (too ugly to be soldered) on a crude front sight. I talked the gunsmith who sold it to me, for a very good price because of the condition, into installing a 1970s vintage 4" M-24 barrel, then refinished the whole thing. Dandy shooter and not bad to look at either:

The sticker shock of current prices has me reeling but I am keeping my eyes open for a couple things I wouldn't mind having...or having again!

Keeping the record straight, I was told yesterday (on another forum) that the 4" barrel couldn't have come from the 1970s, as I had been told, but that it must have come from a production run in 1983 or later. Guess my gunsmith friend got it wrong. Still shoots OK - LOL!
