Chicken Noodle Soup.....

"What's your "Go To" food or beverage when coming in from the cold?"

Currently it is a toss up between Corn Chowder and Homemade, from scratch Mac and cheese.

Oooooooohhhhhh.........corn chowder!!!! Awesome!

We have a couple of favorites here at the ol' homestead. Of course, homemade chili is definitely one of them. So is beef stew. But here's another one of our favorites...homemade vegetable beef soup with vegetables out of the garden along with some homemade sourdough bread.:)

Man! That looks like a hearty meal..... Nice!!

Quick and Fast, Top Ramen noodles of just about any flavor. I like to keep a jar of Costco's Pesto in the fridge. Toss a bag of chopped broccoli in the microwave while I'm getting the water to boil, cook 2 bags of Ramen, drain, throw in the broccoli, add about 1/2cup of Pesto and some Parmesano and were good to go. I also like to throw a can of chopped clams in that mix.

Genius!! Truly Genius!!

I like a hot bowl of Clam Chowder. They never put enough clams in it, so I put in another big can of clams. A pat or 2 of butter smooths it out nicely, and a wee bit of salt and pepper. Some home made wheat bread with Irish Butter and a glass of white moscato wine to finish it off.

A lot of great suggestions here....

I would also add a warm bowl of oatmeal with real brown sugar and cinnamon....

Love oatmeal on a cold morning. I like to soak steel cut oats overnight, then cook it in the morning. I like cinnamon, fruit, and honey on mine.

For people trying to go low carb, chia seed pudding, made with chia seeds, almond milk, and non-sugar sweetener, warmed up in the microwave, is a good alternative.

...
Agreed. (Although I'm about to make a load of chili in the crock pot.) My fav. is Mc Cann's Irish Oatmeal, which I make in my rice cooker and top with real maple syrup, cinnamon and some raisins. Excellent on a cold day when you have to be outside.

As to chicken soup, I like Gary Larson's take on it:

something I've not made in years.... smoked salmon & barley soup

WINTER is coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's like five winners in a row right there...

Smoked salmon and barley soup..... drop the mic!

This time of year, Mrs will cook up a pot of either chili or chicken soup. Either one hits the spot when it's leaf raking season, or later on, shoveling snow.

The chicken soup with homemade noodles like Meemaw used to make,
That was Dads mom

I love it when the days get shorter, the leave turn and fall and the night get cold. It does mean soups, stews, chili, pot roast, braced shanks and other solid comfort food that cooks slow and makes the house smell so good.

We're headed for a hard freeze the next few nights so today we picked all of the remaining green tomatoes. We've had fried green tomatoes several times the last few weeks. This thread got me in the mood for soup.

This afternoon the wife and I whipped up a Carnitas Posole Verde with some of the green tomatoes and garden peppers. We shredded some cabbage, sliced some avocados and radishes. Topped it with a little cilantro, sour cream, a wedge of lime and some smoke pepper flakes. I might have another bowl for breakfast in the morning.

Another 1/2 liter of good red wine in order.:D

For dessert chocolate cake and a balloon glass of "aguardente velha"(we cannot call it cognac because the French "own" the name:rolleyes:).
