Christmas story

I thank you sir! Always good to get an education from a fellow Tennessean.
Also - I won't ask how (or why) you know this stuff

P.S. I don't know how you guys wear these high heels. I'll try again once the cast is off though.

Thanks again

I should mention that the down side of wearing fishnet stockings, pink high heels, with matching purse is that the "Good Old Boys" won't let you hang out with them or go fishing, hunting or camping with them.

Saw "Elf" the other night for about the 13th time, but this is the first time I noticed that the elf in the beginning of the film who tells Buddy that he's not a "cotton-headed ninnymuggins" is none other than Peter Billingsley (Ralphie).

Ok, I just got done watching the movie for the first time of many this season... :D

Ralphie's Orphan Annie decoder pin does say 1940 on it.... Seems right to me.

I remember seeing it at the movie theatre the year it was released (I think it was 1985). I said at the time, "This is going to be a classic". My dad, who was a kid in the late 30's/early 40's, said they nailed it. The "You'll shoot your eye out", 10 plugs in 1 outlet and blowing the fuses, the flag pole, etc. were dead on.

Jean Shepherd-"Shep" to us devotees-had a nightly program on WOR out of NYC from 1954-1974, that story became a Christmas annual. It was published under the title of "Duel in the Snow, or, Red Ryder nails the Cleveland Street Kid."
One time I took my mother to one of his book signings, she commented that his fans were "8 to 80".

Hard to tell....I'm in Cali and it's been heavily edited on TV here...there is no BB gun anywhere in the film...they dubbed in that Ralphie wants a "non-gender based toy" for Christmas. The turkey scene was also edited out so as not to offend the Vegans. They did however leave the fishnet leg lamp in for the transvestites...which is nice I guess.

So, with the "offensive" material removed, which I assume would also include Christmas dinner, bullying, etc. Are there enough commercials to fill a 30 min. spot?

Mr. Shepherd also has a cameo in the film. He's the man telling Ralphie where the line to see Santa starts.

have seen it 100 times and looking forward to the next 100. kids love it as well, ralphie's little brother in that one piece winter get up kills me!!!

Did they also edit out the ending in the Chinese restaurant? After all, that would offend some of the marshmallows out in Fruit and Nut land since it's "racially insensitive".

I used to listen to his WOR (710 AM) show with my Dad in the 1960's. Shep was an true gem.

The annual broadcast of the BB gun story around Christmas was one of my favorites.

There used to be a site that had his broadcasts available called "Mass Backwards". http://www.flicklives.com/Mass_Back/

I'd not listened to his shows in many years. As soon as the opening theme started .....I was flooded with good memories of my youth and those hours spent with my Dad.

Excelsior you Fathead!
