I am a new gun owner (M&P 15-22 and M&P9 shield) and I know with all metal parts you are supposed to wipe down with oil to keep them looking nice and prevent rusting. What about the polymer? Does the same go for oil on the exterior or does something else work best?

Polymer doesn't rust or corrode, so nothing really has to be done to it. A damp cloth will take care of any dust or dirt, but for those who are anal about cleanliness can use baby wipes, as has already be suggested.

FWIW, I don't wipe down any gun parts with oil. All that does it attract dust. I have used silicone cloths for years with no rust. Keeping the guns stored in a low humidity (under 40%) environment helps even more.

Dawn dishwashing liquid cleans up little ducks in an oil spill. Dawn also removes all the grunge you get on your hands doing a brake job on a car. It will delicately clean your shooting polymer to a sparkling shine.

I've done nothing more to mine than wipe off & out with an old dry teeshirt.

I also use Dawn on my WW2 patches. It does not leave any residue that shows under bluelight. Good stuff. I would think Murphy oil soap would do a nice job on the plastic as well as it does a nice job on the plastic dashboard and seats in the car.

THIS made me laugh, as i had just used the baby wipes for anal cleanliness on my 6 month old whilst reading it ha ha, next on the 15-22.

Confession from an addict: Dear group, last night i shot 150 rounds in less than 3 mins. Forgive me fellow addicts i had a relapse :p

I realized the pun (and I absolutely LOVE unintended puns!) after I made the post, but decided to leave it in. Glad you got a laugh out of it! :D
