Cleaning your M&P

Great thread. Simple subject, but one I have asked myself. How long should I spend cleaning. I spend 15 to 25 minutes. Sometimes I don't clean after every use. If I shoot and am going to the range the next day, I don't clean. :D But, as an ex-Marine I suffer great guilt.:o

With all due respect, far be it for me to correct you, but I believe you would be considered a "former" Marine, unless you were dishonorably discharged, which I doubt. And, as my close buddy has informed me, the correct moniker should just be "Marine", i.e. once a Marine, always a Marine.

Thank you for your service...Semper Fi.

I shoot a 9c for personal protection and use the MP-7 stuff & a bore snake. Field strip in less than 1 min. Cleaned, oiled & assembled in 5 min. Shoot about 500 per week and clean on Sundays.

BTW - My old 92FS takes about 30 min to strip & clean and becomes cranky if I shoot the M&P too often.

I'll get the barrel and recoil spring soaking then attack the rest with a brush and some Hoppes .... After which, I'll run patches until they are clean and get all the right pieces oiled .... reassemble and wipe down with oil, a silicone wipe, or some CLP on a cloth...

All in all, about 30-40 minutes....

I keep every weapon 'Marine clean' at all times...

Only cleaned mine twice, but I'd say 20 minutes tops.

It strips down into four pieces in under a minute, then I clean the barrel, wipe the rest down, place my 6 drops of oil (small drops!) and reassemble. Test dry fire and insert a loaded clip for the nightstand.
