Clint Eastwood or John Wayne?

Robert Duval DOES rate up there with the likes of John Wayne (and in fact was his enemy in True Grit), Robert Michum, Jimmy Stewart, Glenn Ford, Lee Marvin, Henry Fonda, Kirk Douglas, and Burt Lancaster.
ALL of which rate higher than Eastwood in MY book.

Sorry, but as much as I like Clint Eastwood, he's more along the lines of the Magnificent Seven cast (McQueen, Cobern, Bronson) which I don't rate in the same caliber...(although Chato's Land with Bronson was Great, and reminds me to mention Jack Palance as right up there in the first group also).

...and (LMAO!) if a person thinks Clint is a better actor than John Wayne they've obviously NEVER heard Clint sing...(my ears...make it stop).

YouTube - Clint Eastwood - I still see Elisa

I DID like the movie Open Range...but I hate a shootout where a sixshooter fires 12-15rounds before needing to be reloaded (and Director K. Costner should know better as his forest scene shootout in the snow in Bodyguard was one of the coolest I've seen!). Otherwise a great movie. And I am a firm believer that Annette Bening (IMHO) is one of the most naturally beautiful women ever to grace the silver screen.

Lonesome Dove rates right up with the best of them. Classic.
Great Movie, and even better book. I have the entire DVD collection.

WOW a whole lot of great folks to chose from --- John Wayne (1) all of the others (2)... I really like all of them and for different reasons....

Mary Ann.........or was it Ginger? Nope, Mary Ann fer sure!

The Duke could never have played the "High Plains Drifter" role, and Clint would have made a mess of "True Grit"

More like apples and rhubarb!

Since they are both actors, it would have to be the only one of the two that can act, John Wayne.

Clint Eastwood glorified everything a real man wouldn't even think of doing in his earlier films, and when he started directing his own movies he became an anti-gun, liberal, crybaby, whiner, wannabe. Just like John Kerry.

Obviously you haven't seen Gran Torino! ;)

Man that is hard one for me to pick, I like them both.

As for now I would go with Tom Selleck and Bob Duvall (he likes to go by Bob).

Hello out there,

to me, no doubt at all, it is the Duke.
Clint Eastwood is kind of ""more versatile"" and very good too, but - to me - the Duke is King.
Have a nice day !
Best regards from Germany

John Wayne, all I have to do is watch True Grit to make that call.

This would make a good subject for a Poll...

Clint is the better actor, and I never liked Wayne's political view even though I am a staunch Conservative (he always played the big hero, but in fact was a cowardly draft dodger), so Clint it is for me.

You see, I find this comment uncalled for and not real accurate. Books have been written about the Duke's lack of military service and it was a issue with him, but calling him a cowardly draft dodger is uninformed ignorance.

I remember watching a interview they did on John Wayne,if I remember right he wanted to go into the military. I think he went to Veit-Nam to see the groups there. He was a true American.
