Clint Eastwood or John Wayne?

I watch John Wayne movies...
I FEEL Clint Eastwood movies.
Clint without a doubt.
Altho I would rank Sam Elliott with, or higher than, Clint when it comes to westerns.
And Tom Selleck over both of them.

Man you guys really know how to open a can of worms. I prefer Clint over JW, because I like Clint's style over John Wayne. But I love to watch Robert Duvall and Tom Selleck in a western, Quigley Down Under was great. And Open Range was great too. Some good westerns are out there.

Sands of Iwo Jima... I had the movie poster framed, and hanging in my room as a young Sgt. Never failed a room inspection, because of that poster. Thank You JW.

Just a thought but I wonder if there may be an "age/era influence" here. I'm 47 and voted for the Duke, it is possibe that the Clint guys are a younger generation? and those voting for Duval, Selleck etc are even youger?

I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.

John Wayne as J.B. Books in The Shootist (1976)

Its dec 1941. You are kissing 35 years old. You have 4 kids. You are owned by the studios and could be sued trying to get out of contracts. You can make a fortune as is.
While its not a plus towards being a hero, just what percentage of men did join under the same conditions? Training with 18 year olds when you are 35? Yeah its a snap!
My dad was close to johns age too. He had us two kids. He had at that time about two brothers and 3 brother in laws already in. Dad wanted in but he had been laid off for three or four years from a job as a machinest about in 1937. He and mom had migrated west picking peachs for I think about $2 a day. His old job at A. O. Smith in milwaukee called him back to work in fall of 41. Mom was pregnant with me and I have a 3 year older sister. Dad went back, the war broke out and dad was froze to his job. I understand he wanted to go in but couldnt.
Probley 90 % of you reading this wasnt born untill the war was long over. I posted this to give a little light for you that dont know how things were then, before you call someone a coward like john wayne! You dont know what your talking about!

I know Harry Callahan who plays the role of Clint Eastwood, but who is John Woo?

I watched John Wayne movies growing up, and loved his westerns. Didn't start watching Clint Eastwood movies until I was in my teens. I find it hard to say a favorite, because of the difference in acting styles. I think Clint Eastwood was better at the lone-wolf performance, while John Wayne personified cowboys.

Clint is one of my favorites alright, but John Wayne is way out infront. The Duke was a solid Conservative.

I prefer John Wayne in the movies where he shows his age and acts in character: Big Jake, True Grit, and The Shootist. My favorite three, although for no plot entertainment, the winner is McClintock.

But Robert Duvall has 'em all beat, especially as Boss Spearman in Open Range, featuring the greatest western gunfight of them all. And who can forget Lonesome Dove?

That has to be one of my favorite movies. I can watch that every time it comes on T.V. and I've got the VHS tape too. And then there's Tom Selleck and Sam Elliot in the "The Sacketts". Kevin Kostner played a good Wyatt Earp. I watched Liberte Valence again the other night as well and Jimmy Stewart played a good cowboy as well . . heck, I like'm all, just John Wayne a little better . . . .

I prefer the Duke, but not by much. Personally I think Wilson could take them both:

C'mon, now.
Jimmy didn't play a cowboy in Liberty Val.

As I recall, he was a greenhorn lawyer,
turned busboy/dishwasher,
then, he lost all honor, and became a senator....:D

As well as playing a dishwash'n Senator, Jimmy Stewart played a good cowboy in other movies, like Winchester 73. Just the movie Liberty Valence put me in mind of Jimmy. Lee Marvin was a fair-to-middl'n cowboy as well. Allan Ladd and gotta mention Gary Cooper.

John Wayne. One of my favorite movies of his is the Cowboys. I think it is one of his finest. He portrayed a believable cattle man with non of the over the top macho western stereotypes in so many films.

Arguably, one of the best performances ever given in a Western was Lee Marvin as Monte Walsh.
Period.
I also enjoyed Kostner's character in "Open Range". I liked his philosophy, espoused while trying to get Duvall out of his way while reloading that SA......
