Clint Eastwood or John Wayne?

Clint is the better actor, and I never liked Wayne's political view even though I am a staunch Conservative (he always played the big hero, but in fact was a cowardly draft dodger), so Clint it is for me.

As much as I like Eastwood, I've gotta go with The Duke.
I watched The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance again the other evening, probably my favorite.

Clint Eastwood was great in the Spaghetti Westerns even though he played the same part all the time. Liked him in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly too.

John Wayne though is the icon... especially in The Shootist.

My favorite actor in any western though is Lee VanCleef.

Normally when there are more than 2 pages of replies I don't bother to reply but I feel obligated on this one. NO ONE but J.W. "The Duke" Clint can't even hold him a light in the westerns.

CLINT, without a doubt. I know it borders on heresy, but John Wayne was a lousy actor.

But Robert Duvall has 'em all beat, especially as Boss Spearman in Open Range, featuring the greatest western gunfight of them all. And who can forget Lonesome Dove?

The Duke for sure, thought Robert Duvall makes a pretty good cowpoke.

Put me down for John Wayne. I must add though, Robert Duval is currently the best there is. His portrayals of the mature cowboy, rancher or ranger are some of the best I've ever seen.

I can't really say. I like Eastwood and John Wayne. So I choose to not pick one.:D

Who will be the next great cowboy? Robert Duval or..............

Since this is after all., a Smith & Wesson forum, and Clint made the Model 29 famous, he takes the hat.

I have to go with John Wayne. I haven't come close to seeing all his movies, especially the early B/W ones. Some of my favorites:

Big Jake
True Grit
Rooster Cogburn
The Man Who Shot Libery Valance

I am an iconoclast by nature and the fact that Marion ducked serving in some way durring WW II bothers me a lot!

I liked Marion in his 30s, 40s and 50s movies but then he became a fat old silly caricature. The Shootist and True Grit were good though.

Clint at least takes care of his body and he gets my vote.
