Closet space when you’re married.

When we had our house built, we made sure we had plenty of closet space. His and hers plus my closet doubles as a safe room (storms and toys).
works. and we also have his and hers dressers.

When we were married, a little over twenty years ago, I had some pretty nice furniture. Nice genuine leather couch, loveseat, and wonderful "reading" chair that smelled and felt like sitting in a massive baseball glove. Lots of other things I thought were "nice."

Today an inventory of "our" house would reveal but a single piece of furniture, my master bedroom upright chest of drawers, and nothing else of "mine" (and she really doesn't like that either). However I do not recall the exit of any furniture that was originally "hers."

Our closet situation is perplexing. She does in fact send me to Goodwill occasionally with bags full of clothes. Yet we keep running out of clothes hangers. Then a new batch of hangers shows up in laundry room. Then we run out again. It's like the Twilight Zone

I recall one move where the last U Haul trip was all clothes-hers, IIRC. Stretched clothes line back and forth through the tie down rings and had a truck sized clothes closet. Later built her a closet the width of the master bedroom. House and ex ~ 40 years in the past now.

The way my house is configured we have two bedrooms and a den/office that could be made into a albeit small but functional bedroom.

Its only the two of us so she uses the spare bedroom closet as hers excursively and I use the closet in the main one.

Admittedly she has much more stuff that I do. I will not even get into all the clothes and other items (AKA junk) she has downstairs in the basement in order to be well dressed at the many Red Hat Society events she goes to.

So far its working out OK.

Bought my dream house at 40,lots of floor space, huge unfinished basement ,3 bay garage,my own office on the first floor, large master suite with a giant walk in closet, soaring ceilings.Almost had it paid off in a dozen years, but the downside to it all was that my wife lived there too 😂 .I've been happily single for 17 yrs and whenever thoughts of marriage come up…yea she isn't that interesting lol

A friend from church had been married 40+ years when his wife died suddenly of a virulent cancer. He was a lost puppy, then met a woman who came to church but who should have a warning label. Three years later, they're divorced, she destroyed his health through constant bickering and pushing him to stop taking 'dangerous' meds for diabetes and hypertension. She filled the house she insisted on buying with clothes, purses, shoes, saddles and reins, and had to be forced out by court order once the house was sold by court order as part of the divorce. If anything happens to my wife of 50 years, I'll do the George Washington and avoid foreign entanglements.

Still a newlywed at 46 years of marriage! I have more outdoor clothes, she has more nice clothes. As long as the wife's clothes come off, I could care less about closet space!

We got married 6 weeks after she graduated The Ohio State University. I had rented a 3 BR house with huge closets in every bedroom. I had Living Room, Dining Room and one bedroom's furniture. We had a mountain of wedding gifts and when she moved in after the wedding, she had two suite cases and a medium box of stuff.

I have a gun room, she has a sewing room, the world is good to me.

She has the closet as well as various drop hangers on the backs of doors. I have a rack in the laundry room and a drop hanger on one of the doors. The laundry room is next to my workshop and gun room so it's convenient........ Don't really need much more, only have a few clothes that I wear regularly and a couple for dressy occasions. After 41 years it's just easier this way................

Farmer, don't feel like the Lone Ranger. My wife has three bedroom closets, plus boxes, vacuum storage bags and a trunk for out of season clothes, and I don't touch any of it. I get one bedroom closet, not the bedroom we sleep in of course, which is perfectly adequate because I don't mind the walk to my closet, the garage is ALL MINE, and she doesn't get to touch any of it.
I'm a happy hubby, she's a happy wife, life's been good.

I started this thread to be funny, I really love her to pieces and don't mind her getting rid of some of my clothes. She has me wear clothes that really turn her on so that's my main goal anyway..:.for the fringe benefits. We have one closet in another bedroom I have all my sporting, hunting, and outdoors clothes and I get the coat closet all to myself for all my coats and jackets. We have another closet upstairs, but I'm too lazy to climb the stairs to use it.
