That is nicer looking than I would have expected. I'd be happy with that piece of history! I can't recall based upon prior reading what the service grades are selling for? I thought they were like $1000-$1200? If so that is well worth the investment to me! How does the action feel? My 1943 Colt is in pretty good condition but is still fairly loose. Shoots great and looks great!

Price was $1050 with shipping. I owned a Remington 1911 a few years ago. This one feels extremely tight. Dry as a bone. I'll break it down this weekend and clean and oil. No markings at all on magazine. Came in the really nice and solid Pelican case with the CMP logo on the front.

I started reloading .45 in preparation. I made a dummy round. Failed to go into battery once or twice but I really just think that's because it's so dry. 17 times out of 20 it chambered fine.

Thanks for that information! I'm sure these 1911's will need a little love (cleaning, oiling and some gentle messaging). :)

Most of them probably haven't received much attention over the last couple of decades. I found a like new Ithaca from 43 or 44 last year for my father in law. These are great firearms to collect and shoot. Enjoy that pistol!

Thanks for sharing with us!! I've been following your adventure over on the other thread, and on the CMP forum.

Congratulations on getting a super nice pistol. I am hoping to get something similar....

If you don't mind, I'll put a link over on the other CMP 1911 thread to this one, so the other guys following the lottery can enjoy seeing your treasure.

Best Regards, Les

That’s fine. Just figured new pics warrant a new thread. Didn’t wanna get it buried in an older threat. But thanks for doing that.

Unmarked magazine indicates Colt WW2 production; most others had markings on the toe of the floorplate, or late production on the floorplate itself.

Slide shown is Colt production, post WW2. Probably produced as replacement parts order. A lot of the barrels produced during the late 1960's and early 1970's, and used in arsenal rework pistols featured a heavy chrome plating of the bore, and that may require some break-in use to easily chamber ammo. Interestingly, one of the barrel makers during the re-arsenal years was S&W, and I own a couple of those barrels with such heavy chrome plating of the bore that ammo feeding is marginal at best.

Overall, looks like a pistol that was arsenal reworked, reparkerized, and placed in "war reserve" stock. Probably no use at all since the re-arsenal work. Good cleaning, light lubrication, and a trip or two to the range should result in satisfactory service with ball ammo.

Nice looking 1911A1. 1943 Colt frame re-arsenaled at Augusta Arsenal and again at Anniston. The slide is one of the replacement hard slides from the circa 1953 contract that used the same markings as on commercial production. It also has Keyes grips which were typically installed on A A rebuilds in the early 50's. I have a 1941 Colt rebuild with the same slide. What markings are on the barrel?

Can’t see any on it. Haven’t broken it down yet. Guy on the CMP forum noticed. 7/76 rebuild. Bicentennial gun!

Not jealous at all!

(ok, maybe a little bit). Very much wish I'd got in on the CMP 1911s.

Just out of curiosity...what was your lottery number? I got an email from them with mine over a month ago and still haven’t gotten the call.

I'm "green as a gourd". You did good. Looks just like the one i handled and shot in Military training at Port Hueneme in 1973. I'll bet it won't be worth any less in 5yrs. Congrats, I hope you really enjoy your new treasure.............
