I guess the evil god winter has finally made it back to Minnesota. It's going to -13 below zero tonite and won't get above zero until Tuesday. Makes me wonder why I live in a place where I can sit in my refrigerator to warm up. Up north in Cotton it got to -41 a couple days ago, actual temp not wind chill. Wish us luck.

This should be a good test for the insulation on my sewer pipe. There’s not much snow cover, and the pipe is only a couple of feet deep. I may have to plug in the heat cable I laid along the pipe when I dug it up and insulated it a few years back.

Sometimes I miss the winters of my youth in Spokane, WA and South Bend, IN...... Then I read posts like these and have to rethink it.

Hopefully you live and work in downtown Mpls. so you can take those overpasses everywhere until the spring thaw arrives. Good luck.

Gerbing :: The leader in Heated Gear Technology

We've used a full neck-to-toe heated outfit from them and ridden toasty in sub-zero weather. Freaks out a lot of people.

Calvin Trillin once did a piece about Minneapolis where he describes himself walking in what we call the skyways, bundled up in a down parka with the hood up. He looks down on the street and sees a guy wearing “a London Fog, for god’s sake!”

I got my first Eclipse electric vest around 1980. More recently I have used Aerostich electrics. The riding season would be pretty short without them.

Been using Gerbing gear for years. I resisted for decades of riding thru winters, stuffing myself into four sweaters and a hoodie under my leather jacket. Once I finally tried heated gear, all I could say was, "Why did I wait so long?"

Arrived home on the 27th at 5:30 pm it was -13 with 4 mph wind according to the wind chill chart it was -26. the next morning it was -15 and wind was still about 4 mph. took some boiling water outside and threw it in the air turned to snow. You got to love the Upper Peninsula.

It is 12:30 AM here in Massachusetts, the home of Smith and Wesson, and it is 5 degrees outside. Luckily it is going to warm up tomorrow as they are predicting a high of 17.

If anyone knows Al Gore, could you ask him to send us some of that global warming.

We were sold on Gerbing after a cold early morning run up to the Marcus Dairy motorcycle event left us chilled to the bone.
The only vendor that had set up their booth was Gerbing, and on their table were gloves and jackets that were powered and hot.

OMG, they felt so good I didn't want to take them off. The clincher was that they took my very tall and hard to fit husband's measurements, and custom made a jacket and pants for him at no extra cost.

These extremely cold days make us miss the nice winter climate we had when we lived in SC for the several years.... but spending so much time with our grandson here makes up for it.
We hate winter but being back by family is a tradeoff worth making. We just hibernate till spring, which is a long way off lol

Cold ?

After spending 8 wonderful years in Alaska where natives say "If you spend one summer here, you will spend all your winters here". True! After I retired I said that I am going so far south that no one knows what snow is. It was 37 degrees at day break here on the Florida panhandle. I can smell the bacon frying and a fresh pot of coffee. Happy New Year to all.

My thoughts on the cold weather and winter?....

I hate winter!

I hate winter!

I agree. 25 years ago when I was between marriages I joined a singles group and we signed up for skiing at a local ski resort. Then I looked forward to snow and time off and was skiing every week.

Haven't been skiing since and since my only winter activity is plowing or shoveling snow I also have begun to hate winter. The only bonus is being self employed and 67 years young, I don't HAVE to be anywhere M-F from 9-5. :D

Shaping up to be a bad winter here. It got cold about 3 weeks early this year. My golf course is closed for at least a week. Been a decade since that happened.

Live south of I-10.

Around here, I-85 seems to be a barrier to bad weather. It's unnatural how it stops snow/ice from coming further south.

I ride in upper 50s to upper 80s. Last winter, 9 days was the maximum time between rides. I'm at 11 days now, and long range forecast shows no days above upper 40s in next 14 days.

-13, wind chill -35. Cold enough. Won't get above 0 until Tuesday.
Do have to venture out today but after that think I'll hibernate until Tuesday.

-22 this morning, supposed to get to -26 tonight and that's a bit warmer than an earlier forecast. Of course, I had some outside chores to do this morning. But next weekend it's supposed to get up to +18. That's going to feel almost warm!!!

But I feel like a whimp -- the older I get, the more I like Arizona winters! Headed there in about 3 weeks.

We are about to have what we consider "cold" temps in SE Texas. It will get down to the mid 20's for a couple days.

My niece, who spent most of her life in temperate places thanks to a Marine father, is now in Minnesota doing post graduate work at the University of Minnesota, Mankato. She has celiac disease and might weigh a bit over 100lb. Not enough meat on her bones to keep her warm. She is enjoying the relative warmth of Colorado Springs for a couple days before she has to go back next week.

Sea wind brought much needed rain to my neck of the woods. And 66° F around noon as a bonus.
