Collecting 3" round butt N-frames?

The only 3" n-frame I own is a 29-4. unfluted cyl in blue. It has some holster wear from the PO, but I like been there done that look. Not as collectable as some of the others in here (which I'm jealous of)

I have two; numbers 1 and 3 in your list.

A Model 24-3 Lew Horton .44 Special and a Model 29-4 3" Special .44 Magnum.

2532 29-4 3" Specials (product code 101251) were built in 1989. They came from the factory with the Pachmayr grips as worn on irish's. Later in 1989, the same year it was built, mine was customized by Gary Reeder when he was still in Sarasota, Florida.

Some of us are looking for YOUR 3" gun! Your unfluted cyl gun is rather hard to find in the 29. I have seen very few of them around!

All the 24 3" RB guns were Lew Horton guns. Something to look for in your travels is the S&W made holster for this gun. S&W made holsters for the 624 also but they are different than this one!

That's a beautiful, all original example! Congratulations!

There's one being auctioned off on Gunbroker right now wearing a set of S&W combat grips (these came with the Pachmayrs yours has) and the wrong hammer and trigger (these came with target hammer and trigger as yours and mine have) and it's currently been bid above $1100!

Thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately I'm missing the box and papers (I do have them for the 19-4 posted with it). I took it out this weekend and put a few rounds down range. Its a screamer for sure. I'm thinking of swapping of the good years for some Ahrends tactical rounds (I'll keep the factory grips). Otherwise I'm happy with it.

Very nice irish, thanks for the pics. While I like to have the box, docs and tools it is not always possible. Especially in older or rarer models such as yours. I bought my 625-3 with nothing and was happy just to get one. I can continue to search for a better example but I can cross that one off my list.

I didn't know all of the 24-3's were Lew Hortons jcelect, thanks for the info. I'm aware of the factory holsters which do look very nice. Since I'm a lefty I don't know if I will pursue one or not. Nice looking example of the 24-3 you have there.

I have a digital camera and would like to post up a few pics but not sure how to do so. I confess to being a baby boomer and being more familiar with multiplication and division than cut and paste. Bob.

what a fine collection. All yours in a row confirms my like for the full underlug 3". Something about that chunky front end really scratches an itch.

Brings up a question. ..Did the full underlug 3" come in at a certain date or is it just model specific? Reason I ask is for example I have seen both underlug styles of 629 3" and I think the full underlug were newer models.

Great guns but just too big to carry CCW and too samll to shoot comfortable on the range compared to the 4" and 6" versions,
Also, Who knew dash 3's would ever become collectable back then ?

I hope this works. A couple of the wiz-kids at work gave me a crash course in resizing and posting photos. Here are a few of my meager collection so far. My photography and internet skills are about equal, not very good. These were taken handheld in automatic mode with flash.

Looks like you are off to a great start! I have 3 on your list: a LH 24-3, a 624, and and a 29-4 unfluted.

Not counted, but very nice in my opinion, is my 325 NG (2 1/2" bbl). My desire for a Model of 1989 625 is dampened somewhat by the Nightguard - until I run across one, anyway!

That really looks nice. May I ask what you used and how you cleaned it up? Mother's mag wheel polish and a cotton rag? The stainless steel guns seem to be less forgiving and show everything. Thanks for your reply, Bob.

I have this 629-1 that had rubber grips when I got it. I finally landed the combats last week thanks to tmichael.

Unless you were specifically avoiding the lightweights, there's the 329 TI/SC. The only S&W that out recoils the S&W 500 Mag 3"!

Truer words were never written. I haven't experienced the pleasure of shooting the lighter 329 PD, but my 329 NG has a much sharper and more painful recoil than my S&W 500.

Don't forget to include custom N-frame round butts from the likes of Jovino, Behlert, and others. This is my 629-0. I am not sure who did the original work.
