Colt Ar-15 HBar Match Target "What to do"

I'm with Moosedog, fyimo, and Rick A., keep it rock stock if you are not going to shoot it much or sell it. It's still a $900+ Colt AR as it sits, and a reliable, accurate rifle with good ammo. Modern AR's are the Barbie Dolls of rifles, you can dress them anyway you like. BUT, once you do a permanent modification then it's just another hacked up fence post in the eye of the buyer. Keep it stock or reconfigure with quality parts and accy's, but do no harm.
Disclaimer: I started out as a highpower competitor with a stock 1993-ish R6601 Sporter Match HBAR, then got into machine guns (including M16's), and then S&W. I've reconfigured and modified many AR/M16/M4's, but my original R6601 HBAR is still an iron sight 20" service rifle good for cleaning a 600 yard target with 77 grain Sierra BTHP over 24.5 grains of Reloader 15 (and just a little left wind hold). Just thinking about it get's me jazzed for some long range fun. Good times.

Just buy a 16" upper from any of the online sources and go have fun with it.

Keep it stock, in 20 years from now lots of things could change, the band guns could actually be the ones that are sought after, they are
producing millions of AR's in modern configurations! Just a thought

Thanks for all the advice. I mentioned selling it to my father-in law, He had an absolute conniption fit . Seems that he lugged a Colt M-16 around Tan San nut airbase, Vietnam in 68-69, so Colt rifles are like gold to him. He was absolutely adamant that it stay in the family, and even suggested that he should hold it for "safekeeping". I still haven't decided what if anything, I'll do with it. My wife made the observation, that it costs me nothing to keep it, and my prove to be a valuable resource in the future.

I think you're making the right choice s in future years we usually do kick ourselves for selling guns.
I understand your Father-in-law as I had to have a Colt too as it was my service gun. Even though it doesn't have a flash hider or bayonet mount it still is a nice gun. I don't see the need to add a flash hider on it and will keep mine stock too except for maybe a trigger.
I had mine out the other day as it was in the way of a shotgun I was getting out for rabbit hunting. Looked it over a bit and think I'll get it out when the weather improves and shoot it again. Maybe the trigger is better than I remember it to be.
