Massachusetts carry

Commonwealth law states "that it shall be a violation to be in possession of a firearm while intoxicated". You can carry in any establishment, be in possession of alcohol, just don't have more than one drink an hour, and you should be safe. Personally when I carry, I don't consume alcohol.

Some Mass State parks and forest that are under DCR control hunting is permitted during the season, 304 CMR 12:18 allows firearms on properties that permit hunting during the season only. Outside of the hunting season, carry is not permitted. So during deer season no carrying of a handgun. During coyote season at parks and forest that allow hunting, carrying of a handgun is permitted, as long as you are in possession of a hunting license.

I keep a spare cable lock and a nanovault with me in case I need to go to the post office, or other firearm restricted locations.

Good Luck, Mass firearm laws are confusing.

Didn't they cover this in your "approved training course" conducted by a "certified instructor?" If not, I would contact him for answers to your questions.

^^ this ^^
There are so many different opinions of "how" the gun laws can be broken down in MA... very confusing - indeed.

A good source for info is GOAL.... you can google their website.

Personally,,, I do not drink at all when carrying... just not worth the risk and/or explanation should the circumstance present itself.

hey moxie thnx its been 25 plus years i'll look into it
thnx lil'bill

Thank God I live in a gun friendly state with laws that even a caveman could interpret correctly.

Sorry for your East Coast-Anti Gun-Nanny State woes.

Sadly most instructors in MA give out tons of mis-information about MA gun laws. This motivated me to create a seminar on the idiosyncrasies of MA gun law (it is NOT the same as what is supposed to be taught in the BFS courses to get your LTC).

MA hunting regs (see MGL C. 131) regulate what you can have "wherever birds or mammals may be found" (whatever the hell that means) and is very restrictive. Basically MA doesn't allow handgun hunting, so that's another problem. Additionally, MGL prohibits anyone from carrying a loaded (or uncased) gun (of any sort) on off-road vehicles. IIRC it was 2010 when they upped the fine for this.
