Concealed Carry Handgun - best choice?

Well, they all fit in a pocket if it's large enough. So since you've already narrowed it down I'd chose the one that you are most comfortable shooting with. And since it's a carry gun you'll end up with a drawer full of holsters anyway...

Can't go wrong with a Charter Arms Bulldog .44 Spl.

I got a shield 40 and love it.
I just came across a similar past on anther forum and I will say the same thing I did there. Pick a firearm that you can trust your life with. And if it's a full size or just a very big gun you will find a way to concel it.

I carry my G22 or shield.

Unless it's a big pocket....

I think 9c is a little big/heavy unless you have a heavy coat pocket. I don't think a .380 is almost a 9mm, which I'd rather have.

To me it's a tossup between the j frame and the shield. I have both.

The .25 can be relegated to back up and I'd hope I didn't have to use it.

Ok, so I'm 6'2" too and I'm at 225 for whatever that is worth. I own the .380 BG and the 9mm Shield along with some other CCWs. My preference is the Shield. I've come to really like the 9mm round and the capacity of the Shield which is why I don't carry the revolver. I have a DeSantis pocket holster but if the pocket isn't large enough I use a IWB holster. The Shield is thin enough that it isn't uncomfortable. Sometimes I might have the BG with me but it's certainly not my favorite weapon and I'm much more accurate with the Shield. So that's my 2 cents but you asked for an opinion and of course everyone has one. Regards, Elliot45

It depends on what Your comfortable with.
My normal carry Gun is My Ruger sp-101 357 Magnum with a 2.25" Barrel. I use a in the waist band Holster amd find it comfortable. Some times I take My full size 1911 45 acp with the Belt Clip so no Holster is needed.

I carry my 642 in my pocket everyday. I wear it around the house, out and about, pretty much everywhere, even when mowing the grass, etc. Very comfortable to carry.

I carry my 40c inside the waistband most days in a White Hat holster...very comfortable.

I have carried the 40c and my HK P2000sk in my front pocket before too. I carried a Glock 19 in the back pocket of my 5.11's in Iraq. Those guns are a little bigger for pocket carry...but not impossible of the pants are loose fitting and you have a good gun belt on.

I'm 6', 210.

I recommend you get a concealed carry license or permit for your state and carry legally.

If you have one then try OWB holsters. Concealed means 'obscured from view', not invisible or undetectable. Bulges, outlines, etc are not illegal in any state of which I am aware. Bulges, outlines, etc go UNnoticed by 99% of the general public. Bulges, outlines, etc when they are noticeable (bending- reaching- stooping) could represent anything; they are not automatically presumed to be a gun.

Get legal first, then once you're legal it no longer matters; you're not doing anything illegal or shameful carrying a concealed firearm and you can carry an appropriate firearm of an appropriate caliber for defense- with comfort.

I'll play Devil's advocate here. But I think choosing a carry gun based on how you intend to carry is plumb bass ackwards. First and foremost, you want a reliable firearm that you can shoot well. You need to like shooting the gun and practice with it.
50 posts and only one mentioning ability to shoot. Grayfox has it right. Get the gun you can shoot first. Then learn how to conceal it.

I have no trouble concealing a full size 1911. I'm 5'10" and about 185. Picking a gun for protection simply because it's small is indeed going at it backwards.

Get the gun you can shoot well. It can save your life and the innocent bystanders will thank you.

Went to my sister's for Thanksgiving wearing a 3 inch S&W Model 13-3 and a Model 642-2 in OWB holsters under my vest. Of course, no one said anything...

m&p bodyguard 380

I recently went through a col class and purchased a m&p bodyguard 380,for my concealed carry.I love this little gun and found it to be very accurate from about 15 yards.I'm a former Leo and am a firm believer that when using a smaller caliber shot placement is even more important.I feel very confident in being able to defend my family with it.I do suggest a good self defense round,I use the lehigh extreme penetrater .

LCR in Mika and LCP in Nemesis. Both are easy for me to pocket.

638 pocket carries nicely in either of these. Uncle Mikes or the Remora depending on the pants. One nice thing about the Remora is you can use it IWB as well.

Asking others what's best for you is like asking someone else to pick your wife. What's perfect for them may not work for you at all. The first step is to find the right gun for you. Because if you don't like it, odds are you won't carry it. Only then do you figure out the best way to carry it.

I don't like pocket carry. Once in a while I may stick a J-frame in a coat pocket for a quick trip to the store or something. But there's no way I'd carry in a pants pocket all day long. To me its uncomfortable, awkward, slow and almost impossible to draw from a seated position. And you did mention jeans which pretty much rules out pocket carry by themselves.
I'm not a big fan of IWB either. It does work, I have done it before and might do it again. But for some people it does tend to get uncomfortable after a while and sometimes rubs against your body until your skin gets irritated. The only way to know for sure is to try it. If it doesn't work for you, you've wasted your money on a holster you can't use.
The fact is that most of us who have been carrying for a good while have a box full of holsters that didn't work....and a few that do!
Since you're on a limited budget, can you really afford to experiment? And if you don't like your holster, chances are you'll leave the gun at home instead of actually carrying it.
Concealed carry is much more about the rig and your attire rather than the gun itself. A good concealment OWB holster and a proper belt makes carrying any gun a whole lot better. It also opens up the choice of gun to a much wider selection. Good gear ain't cheap. But its well worth the cost. Especially if you only have to buy once.
BTW: my usual carry gun is a Commander sized 1911. With a proper belt and holster it conceals just fine under an untucked T-shirt. ;)
Good advice from Grayfox. Also, if your like the rest of us you will end up with more that one carry gun and you'll pick your favorite to carry 99% of the time.

If you decide to go with IWB or OWB holster, make SURE you get a belt that is designed for carrying a gun. The belt & holster make all the difference in comfort.

The good belts will last years and you won't regret it. Depending on the color & style, you can use it as a dress belt too.

Good Luck
Lad

A "gun belt" and holster aren't really a factor with a 642/442...I mean, the things just don't weigh enough to cause the dreaded sag.
