Interesting story. The good guy might have been in deep "stuff" (was outside his home, sounds like it wasn't even his car) except that the bad actors initiated the fight when they came up shooting at the mere sight of the man. I guess they didn't want any witnesses to their nefarious deeds. Good thing the CC Holder was armed and, apparently, a better shot.

Story:
North Side concealed carry holder fatally shoots would-be car part thief, Chicago police say second man ran off

A 25-year-old man was fatally shot late Wednesday when a North Side resident with a license to carry a concealed weapon allegedly saw two men trying to steal parts from a nearby parked car, according to Chicago police.

Authorities said a 44-year-old man had been sitting on the steps of his home about 11:15 p.m. “when he heard a loud noise coming from the street.” He walked toward the curb in the 2900 block of North Wolcott Avenue and saw two men he didn’t know under a vehicle, near the engine, possibly trying to steal a catalytic converter or other car parts.

“The two males noticed the (44-year-old) watching and crawled out from underneath the vehicle. Without warning, both (men) drew their weapons and began shooting at (him),” police said in a media notification.

The 44-year-old resident has a license to carry a concealed handgun, which he was armed with at the time, according to police. When he came under fire, he drew his own gun and started shooting at the two men on the street. It wasn’t immediately clear how far apart the men were when they exchanged gunfire, or whether anyone else was in the area.

One of the bullets fired by the resident struck one of the two men in the neck, police said.

Darion Blackman, 25, was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:07 a.m., according to information released by the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The second man who had been under the vehicle took off running when the 44-year-old began shooting at him and Blackman, police said.

Initial reports suggest the men were trying to steal a catalytic converter, but a police spokeswoman said she could not confirm the parts in question specifically were catalytic converters.

Chicago police said the second man had not been located or arrested as of early Thursday. Authorities said they could not provide a physical description of the second man.

The 44-year-old was not injured and declined medical treatment when paramedics arrived.

Due to the misspelling in the title, I entered this thread expecting a much more outlandish story regarding literal Cat Burglars and a man risking life and limb to rescue his feline family from their claws.

On Topic: Good to hear that it all ended well. It just goes to show you that thieves are crazy these days, trouble can occur anywhere, at any time, even when you're just sitting on your own front porch, and that it pays to have a firearm on you at all times. That's why I've always got my Ruger LCP tucked in my pocket or at my side, so that I can take care of business regardless of whether someone is trying to steal a nearby car or my cat and I end up in an unexpected gunfight. ;)

Another case of a career criminal turned loose to commit more crimes - when he should have still been in jail. In this case he meet his demise due to his ongoing criminal activity.

Same story as the guy who ran down all those people in the parade in Waukesha.

This one had a happier ending IMO.

I hope that was a joke. An abbreviation is not a misspelling.

I had assumed that you had meant to type "Car Thieves" given the context of the thread, but using Cat as an abbreviation for Catalytic Converter was bound to cause confusion, especially when viewed out of context in the thread title.

I believe most thugs who carry guns can't shoot worth a bean. While most CC holders train with a purpose of staying alive!
Glad this story had the right ending.
Train hard..carry on...

You may want to rethink that:

I don't think of thugs as gang bangers, Gang bangers are very dangerous and are most often into bigger things than stealing car parts they take the whole car. the thug is the one trying to steal a cat convert. to buy drugs from the gang bangers. the thugs is the 2 bit criminal while the gangs are very well organized.
Thats just how I group them your MMV

As is often the case, a serious criminal record with the deceased perpetrator. I’d imagine his buddy has the same. Seems like a job for a little more than an LCP, maybe along the lines of a Glock 23.

LOL me too. Thought it was going to be like Gaga's Frenchies getting dog-napped only the feline version.

Ya me too.
NO NOT A JOKE. You mess with my cats it's time for the 3S's shoot, shovel and shut up.

They should have stopped by my place. The 2001 Ford F-150 I purchased in really nice shape this past summer has bad Catalytic Converters needing replacement. I could have collected insurance and everyone could have saved ammo! Darn the luck.

Thankfully the thugs were not to good with the guns that they carried.
Odds are that, at least one wont be a repeat offender. ;)

Pretty lucky good guy, though.. When bullets begin to fly, you never now how it will turn out.

Pray for the guy that had the CCW Permit.
His troubles have just begun. If he owns his own house I hope he still has it after he pays his attorney fees, and possibly does some jail time.
