Confessions of a gouger

So, if there is a car crash out in the desert, say eastern Nevada. Your wife is injured and I drive along. Your cell phone battery is dead. I offer to loan you mine for $1000. OK, since you were not prepared (i.e forgot to charge your phone batter)?

I'm offering a service in exchange for value. You don't have to pay. It's what the market will/may allow?

1. Matters of life and death (like an injured person) can't be compaired
to selling ammo and hi cap magazines for profit to people willing to
pay the asking price.
2. I never forget to charge my cell phone because I'm prepared.

Have you noticed that the people complaining loudest about the gouging are the ones who weren't prepared?

Personally, I don't have anything against those who are making a good profit out of all of this. Free enterprise and all that. Just last weekend I went to a gunshow with some AR mags and did very well on them.
But I do agree that it does reach a point where you pass honest profit and go to gouging. I sold those mags for $30 each (which was the cheapest in the show) and made a substantial profit on them. I don't feel at all bad about it.
Now those folks who were selling G.I. M-16 mags for $100 each, that I consider gouging.

True story. I have more M193 than I need (I have only one EBR and it's not the only gun I shoot). I'm not selling ANY of it because I don't need to be called a gouger and I don't need the money and I'm not giving it away for less than it costs to replace it.

I'm sure that's very helpful to the guy who wants some M193 but can't find any even at today's high prices. But that's how it is - I don't need the conflict, and my good friends are no dumber than I, so they are all set, anyway.

Yup. Call them all gougers. That will get you what you want.

I was never behind on anything over 40 years of reloading caching, learning and always obtained 1000 pieces or more of any cartridge I was shooting or loading.I keep no less than 500 rounds loaded for 27 different cartridges and twice as many firearms.I have been concentrating on handguns and rifles that are friendly to cast bullets and prepared to have plenty to shoot with casting.Plenty of older guns that will convert over to B/P should I ever run out of everything.I have learned enough to have purchased a NIB Daniel Defense Ambush AR-15 in 300 AAC Blackout and 200 rd. of ammo for $1480.00(dealer cost),they are $2000-$2500.00 on G.B. in past the 2 weeks, this guy lost money, and so it goes.

I have 1 modern sporting rifle and one 50 cal. ammo box full of 5.56 ammo and four 30 round mags. and 5000 bullets and 8 pounds of powder and a kitty litter pail full of brass. I did think about selling my rifle and ammo for a large profit but thought better of it.

I have a Walther TPH pistol in .22 LR. When I bought it, I also bought extra mags for $25 each. Price them now.

Years ago when someone was proposing a tax on each cartridge, .22 LR ammunition was 80 cents a box. I bought several cases. I was also a Boy Scout; Be Prepared.

I needed a catchy title...

OK, you caught me. :D And I DO agree with your point. After the last two "primer famines," it is a bit lame not to have laid in a small supply of whatever keeps you going.

Class, can anyone tell me who said:
"From each according to his ability, to each according to his need"
?????
WHICH way do you want it?

That would be Marx, I presume? (But I am beginning to see similarities in many public figures on this side of the Atlantic. :()

Just me

Howdy,
I'm all for free enterprise but under these circumstances it is not for me.
I happened to be sitting on a little money the day of the Sandy Hook shooting. I knew, at the very least, I could have doubled it (Turns out better than that) had I invested in mags or ammo.
I contemplated it briefly and declared I would not feel good about myself if I chose to capitalize off such a tragic event.
I wish our politicians felt like that.
I did invest in some things for my own use that I thought might get scarce, but I was in pretty good shape already.
We have stores around here that have abused the situation and others who haven't and I will remember who did what when the smoke clears.
I'm by no means rich but I don't need the money that bad.
Thanks
Mike

I've spoken to enough folks in my travels, to be convinced that a pretty decent chunk of the frenied buy cycles and bulk purchases is caused by speculators, and not huge 2A fans.

Probably unavoidable in a 'free' market (at least so far).

So the serious querstion here (yes, I said querstion) is how do you quote from two or more people and get them into one post for a reply??!! Inquiring minds want to know!!

When there is a shortage of water I'll trade for TP. My neighbors have no clue how much water I store, they thought I was putting in a new drain field. ;) Water is more valuable than just about any other resource but on par with TP  It'll be protected with presumed banned weapons.

Make two quotes and copy and paste each one into those seperate quotes. Is that the answer to your question?

Actually, you click the box with the quotation mark in it on each of the posts you want to quote instead of the "quote" button. Then, click the "reply" button. All those posts you clicked will show up in your reply text box. Querstion answered!

As the bumper sticker says...;)

"Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean someone isn't trying to kill me"

I remember it as "Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean
their not out to get me", but yeah, that works!
