Hi,
Midway lists a bunch of different rear sight assemblies for K-frame revolvers.
Sizes of 0.146, 0.160, 0.196, 0.136, 0.106. Is that the width of the notch? Or the height of the rear sight blade?

Which size is correct? Or, what should I measure on my gun to figure it out?
Thanks for any assistance!!

This would be for a Model 14-6 with the rounded front tang (new style sight).

Whether it is the old style (square tang) or the new style (round tang) makes no difference as they both use the same sight blades - which is what it sounds like you are trying to replace. For either a 6" or an 8 3/8" Model 14, the correct blade height is .126".

The blades are usually sold as a kit that includes a new windage screw as it is necessary to break that screw to remove the old blade or remnants thereof, in order to install the new blade. That screw then must be staked. I believe that Larry Potterfield has a YouTube video on replacing a S&W sight blade.

Adios,

The different heights are for different barrel lengths, if you just need to replace your rear sight blade just measure the old one,
Iirc they sell it with or without the hardware, I'd recommend get it with the screw etc,
If you need the whole rear leaf you have bigger issues,

Just pulled my 6" Model 14-6 from 1996 CAZ serial prefix to confirm that it has the very first style round rear site leaf which was longer than the second ( current version).
You would need to find the longer early to mid 90's era rear site unit and I do not think the factory has them anymore.

On a side note I opened that Midway link, it said out of stock but also says compatible with Model 10,11,12 which were fixed sights frames so don't know what's going on there.
