This has been addressed before with little change being noted unfortunately, but let's try again. This applies equally to all sub-forums.

When you ask any sort of question on the forum, but particularly a technical one, it is only the courteous thing to do to either post a "Thank you" within the thread or, simply a "LIKE" by the OP to responders posts, or at least the first one providing the answer. A PM to the responder who gave a particularly good and correct response would be especially nice.

There are some members who are very good about doing this, but others who make no acknowledgement whatsoever. Oftentimes new members post a question and never make another post, ever, not even to acknowledge that they received a response.

I agree. It's the least one can do to post a reply. If people take the time to share their knowledge and opinions, then it's good manners to respond. To do otherwise reeks of entitlement. Sometimes a prolonged discussion materializes with great ideas on possible solutions. Why not post a wrap-up with the results? A way of saying thanks and possibly others can learn about the resolution. Again, it's good manners and civility.

Seems to happen in the Veteran's "group" as well. i.e., "What other hobbies do you have" and zero responses. Guess some folks don't think.

Their mothers didn't teach them any better!

In 2007 I went to work for my first job outside the family. The entire staff was amazed at how many times I said "Please' & "Thank You" in a day. I found they lacked other simple courtesies also and left after a year. Now I'm retired and still say it everyone I'm talking with, and I don't even get paid for it! (The young waitresses at lunch think it's funny.)

My accountant handles my sons out of state stuff too. She just told me last week how polite Zach ALWAYS is. I told her he was saying mam and sir ,thank you and your welcome way before he went in the service. I think manners are an inherited trait.

Seems common to most discussion boards regardless of topic.

Someone asks for help with a problem.
Many people respond with advice and suggestions.
Original poster doesn’t respond with the resolution.

It would have been helpful to our diagnostic skills as well as polite to have provided that closing feedback.

Well since it’s gripe time. :D

Not to mention those asking in PM’s “what is your lowest price?” without making an offer first. You are free to make an offer, my price is clearly stated. Then they never respond.
What does it cost to say “thank you for your time”.

If you are looking for courtesy on the internet, or for that matter anywhere in society, good luck.

Just look at the example set forth from the top to the bottom of our pecking order. People don't care about anything but being right and "getting mine".

But thank you for your post.

Courtesy was always iffy, but it took a downward swing with the invention of the IPhone and Farcebook. Since Covid the downward angle has increased.

When I worked one of the company's slogans was "Honesty, Integrity, Fairness and Respect". All employees were required to live like that. Immediately, a couple VPs quit. After a leveraged buyout, and new owners, there was a massive layoff, which included all of the VPs. (they were all promoted to Senior Vice President) Finally, the slogan was eliminated.
