Covid Booster at the VA question.

It appears so far our doctors were right. Wife is back to 95%; I tested 1 week later and have no symptoms except mild fatigue, and that's moderating. Love Moderna!

She had some underlying conditions so got a Z-pack and prednisone. I got a stern warning to rest and push fluids.:)

No never. I have been having complications from the vaccine for almost 6 months. I will not go near the stuff for any reason.

I have read (Epoch Times) that many folks are getting Covid 19 even
though they are fully vaccinated. It begs the question: why get the
jab? If you have had Covid, the antibodies in your body will last longer
than the ones generated by the jab. A lot of folks are confused to say
the least.

The fact that the vast majority of those you get the jab do not end up in an ICU unit is a good enough reason for me. Currently about 56% of the population is fully vaccinated and over 80% of those in ICU are not vaccinated is also a pretty good reason. The 44% of the population without vaccination are taking up 80% of the ICU spots HMMMMM Plus remember that kids under 12 are part of the percentage of unvaccinated. How confusing is that????

This from the NYT this morning:

"...The share of Americans 12 and over who have received at least one vaccine shot has reached 76 percent, and the growing number of vaccine mandates — along with the likely authorization of the Pfizer vaccine for children ages 5 to 11 — will increase the number of vaccinations this fall. Almost as important, something like one-half of Americans have probably had the Covid virus already, giving them some natural immunity..."

Leaving alone the Epoch Times part of this, it is true that people can get Covid after getting the vaccine. It's substantially less likely that they get it than the unvaccinated, and they experience far, far, far better outcomes if they do get it than the unvaccinated. It is also notable that as you said, there seems to be evidence that COVID antibodies last longer than the vaccine. That's probably true, the issue is that for 700,000 of your fellow Americans, death from COVID is pretty damn permanent, and the number of people who have long term debilitating side-effects of it probably would make the trade for slightly shorter antibody life.

Had it not become an incredibly stupid identity issue and we'd seen more vaccination, we'd not only see less bad outcomes, but less transmission, as it is again, both harder to catch and harder to transmit as a vaccinated individual. Instead we're just going to see new variants breed, kill tens or hundreds of thousands more, and require those that give a **** about the health of their countrymen to keep participating in boosters, distancing, mask wearing, all of which could have been stomped out this spring after an incredibly successful vaccine development program.

I've largely given up arguing with people who, subconsciously or deliberately, ignore the difference between anecdote vs. data, and coincidence vs. causation.

Even though it was published eight years ago, this Dilbert reflects a lot of vaccine discussions quite succinctly:

Good News!
I don't have to go into the Rodeo Arena and be a Rodeo Clown.
Last week I mentioned the Booster while I was getting my +P Flu Shot at Walmart.
They replied, we got it.
Do you want it now?
I declined right then, but will probably get it this week.

My wife went to family doc for check up, The doctor looked like hell..Wife asked him what was wrong,,He said he had covid last December,, got over it ,,,,Got the vax afterward,,Showed my wife his arms and they were covered with bruising,,He said they were blood clots.. He said he had to get the vax if he wanted to keep office open,,So wife asked him if she should get the vax, His exact words were (" I can't tell you what you should do,you have to make up your own mind as to get or not,,but! My wife who is married to a """"doctor"""" and there is no way she is getting the vax!") So I take it as a way he is saying DON'T GET THE VAX! While not saying ,,don't get the vax.

Got the flu shot in August and we will get our Moderna boosters as soon as available. We've both had and recovered completely from breakthrough COVID, my wife with moderate symptoms first, me with fatigue only after her. We've gotten excellent care and excellent advice; all pur docs recommended vax and boosters even though we both should have some additional immunity after recovery.
