I think I am going to start buying .32's.

It will cheaper to reload for them than shooting .22.

I cant find .22 locally and I enjoy reloading.

On the index of rationalization and justification how would rate this?

depends on how far down the reloading rabbit hole you've gone.
if you cast your own bullets for it .. yeah, the 32 can be a real solution.

Rates well in my book, but then some people think I'm a little touched. To keep the cost down you will need to be casting your projectiles, I never found a RN mould I liked but bought round nosed bullets, so I know they are out there. Lee has a SWC that works in revolvers and I have a Lyman mould for 32-20 that I use in S&W Long cases that will duplicate the 32 Colt New Police load. I hope you have a powder measure that is good with small loads, as WW231, Unique, and Bullseye all use small amounts ( I recommend the Lyman 55, as it has a "Hammer" mounted on the front to vibrate the last few flakes of powder out of the measure and makes very consistent small loads). I have used Trail boss and it works fine (just remember NEVER compress the load!) Some people like Little Gun, but pressures clime incredibly fast as the charge gets a closer to the max end. I think there are some other powders that will do a good job too, check the powder manufactures "Cowboy" loads. I have 6 or 7 top break revolvers in long and short & a Davis derringer in ACP loaded with LRN for "Belly Gun" shoots. I had bought the wife a Model 30 Snubby, but her arthritis wouldn't allow her to use it; so I traded for a S&W 1896 lemon squeezer in 38 S&W. If you buy a 32 H&R mag die set then order a 32acp seat and crimp die and ACP shell holder, you'll have dies for everything except 327 Federal and 32-20 WCF. There are a few long guns out there for 32s and the revolver rounds work well in all the ones I've had experience with. My best friend was working on a "Barn yard" (50-75 yard) varmint rifle in 32 S&W Long, but I don't know what became of it. Have fun. Ivan

I have a ruger single six in .32 H&R mag that I have loaded for. It`s a fine cartridge. It is flat shooting, accurate and next to no recoil. Some say its about as deadly as a .38 special. I wont attest to that, but it might be. It does have a sharp bark.

What I desperately need is a reason to stop buying guns.

Same here. Every time I buy another gun I tell myself that it
will be the last one because I have too many already. But it
seems that I can only go so long without another "fix". Maybe
it's the economy. The world, at least my part of it, seems to
be awash in all types of guns for sale. Many are offered in
local auctions and some sell at bargain prices. I suppose it's
just human nature to want to latch onto things you like that
look like bargains whether you need them or not.

Hey,
if a .32 is what you want then buy one........ no need to have to justify it. I have bought guns just because I liked the way they looked or relate them to a part of History without having any specific reason to "need" them.

EX: I LOVE the .25, .32acp & .380acp Pocket Pistols (1903's & 1908's) just because I like them - and of course Boggie carried one in some of his movies - LOL!!! Got a bunch of 'em but they are not what I would consider Target guns, Carry guns, or anything really practical - just had to have 'em kind of guns.

Ya gotta be careful of those .32s. I bought one once just on a whim. Now I have five. Those little buggers are adictive!

What Grayfox said. I bought one on a whim too and it became my favorite bumming around pistol. Light, accurate and enough more then a 22 that you know your shooting something. Reloaded with cast bullets it's really cheap to feed also.

In my world that buries the needle on the "buy gun another gun" scale.

In fact, I could spin your reasoning into getting into reloading too! Brilliant, simply brilliant!;)

If I last 6 months between gun fixes I'm doing good. I have all my excuses wrote down like a diary of why I really need this or that gun. I'll sell this for a dollar two ninety eight if any one needs a good excuse book. I'm at the stage of my life now where if I want it I'm goin' to get it if I have the pecos' so I don't use the excuse book any longer. Got a wild hair now for a Henry 357 lever gun with the hexed barrel. Any of ya all mess with one of those?

X 2 on the Colt hammerless. Never tried shooting a lead bullet. Do they feed those OK?

I do and I love that dam thing. Henery no doubt makes nice guns. I liked it so much I went out and got a 22 mag to match it. What I was a bit worried about was the size of the barrel. Its heavy and the same thickness from front to back. In the end I figured out that it adds a lot of stability to the gun and takes care of all the recoil. Some put it down for fact it has no loading gate but it really has not bothered me. After about 6 months with it, I really started to question wether I would hunt deer with it. Only for the fact its so pretty and just hate to scratch it up.

Hayden.

I was shooting 32 longs for $42 a 1000 when 22 LR ran $39 a 1000. No contest for me. Those were replacement cost not lead and primers I already had.

"X 2 on the Colt hammerless. Never tried shooting a lead bullet. Do they feed those OK?"

Oh, yeah... I've shot several .380 CPA's with commercial 95 gr. cast bullets and WW452AA (it was a while ago) and they all fed perfectly over
many hundreds of rounds. This load actually was more accurate than
factory FMJ and JHP's I tried, and never leaded.

Those are some fantastic pistols!
