Creating the Midsize M&P9

I have a Cz P-07 and the mags will fit and hand cycle in my 9c. I haven't tried to shoot it yet but they are g19 size mags

When this frankenstein of yours blows up. Can I have your other guns please? The ones you never modified that is.

I hear the part about dremeling insides and I interpret that to mean reducing structural integrity of a design. I'm sure it's completely safe until it isn't. Take pics of the project and a vid of it in action when you're done.

It will be dremeled to match the compact frame exactly, only with a longer grip. No it would not compromise the structural integrity.

Sorry, I'm claiming a senior moment.

Haha it's no problem. I did post on that thread, that's probably where the confusion came from.

But yeah, it's a project I'm looking forward to and am more than capable of doing, so when it's done I'm sure people will see the usefulness of it and it will probably open a few eyes.

The guy who made that other thread though, I just had to laugh because when I first tested this theory I had the exact same thing happen and panicked lol.

I'm also thinking of taking up to 3/8 off the grip and cutting a mag, but it fits my hand almost perfectly right now.

From what I'm understanding: The M&P9C grip and mag are too short, while the M&P9 FS grip and mag are too long. Almost perfect, but not ultra perfect.

I'm very interested in seeing this part of your mod. The front dust cover thing, no big deal other than some gap. But making a magazine shorter fascinates me.

Roger, the front dust cover won't have a gap though, I actually have to cut the dust cover down to match.

I'm an ok welder but not with something that critical, such as a magazine. A buddy of mine, Paul Grundhauser of Grundhauser Gun Works would be doing the magazine if I decide to go that far.

One step at a time though, baby steps, that is.

I meant there will be a gap after you cut it. Just imagine the cross section of that area post-cut. Not snugged along the slide's recoil spring lug, but you can get creative with melt forming the polymer.

I run at the extreme ends, I have a 9C that I EDC, and then there are my competition guns.

Dang, that's awesome! You don't see much in the way of polymer frames in the open division! The C-More is obviously your open gun, is the other an open gun or Carry Optics division gun?

I shoot my .40 Pro 5" in Limited but this year I will be running .40 minor in production. Looking to finally classify as Master as I was beating up on some Master class guys in my last few matches.

Actually, I plan on hacking it off right in line with one of the cross sections on the inside of the frame. So it should seal up and line up perfectly. I appreciate you guys bringing up any possible issues I may not have thought of though, it should help this project go a little more smoothly.

The Core was my previous open gun. It has too many modifications for CO (plus I have no interest in shooting that division anyway) so my wife shoots that one now.

I was thinking about your post last night and it occurred to me to ask if you had considered using an M&P45c frame instead of the FS because you would have to remove less material and the grip would be perfect already. You could also use the M&P45C mags with a little modification to accept the 9mm. You know as soon as you get done and get the thing working right, S&W will decide to introduce the Gen2 compact that is G19 sized or something like that. Looking forward to your pictures.

I had a Glock 19 that I modified the grip on to accept Glock 26 magazines, so I'm ok with doing mods that suit your personal needs. I did trade it out when I decided the M&P9c needed a place on my hip. I'll be interested to see the finished product.

Short slide on a standard frame might be a M&P SSV?

This is pretty cool. I imagine the 59xx slide would be cool on a 69xx frame as well. Would something like that work?

Haha I think that's a definite possibility, they ARE making a new handgun for the Army contract but I wouldn't say it will hit the market that soon.

But no, I thought about the 45C, it IS the perfect size but that's with the magazine extension. I'm trying to avoid using those.

Keep the suggestions / possible roadblocks coming, it's really assisting my brainstorming!

FYI,

The mid-size, 4" M&P .45 is virtually the same size as a G19 and a 10 round magazine and comfortable grip, one reason I bought one, then another. Best out of the box .45 I've owned among a bunch of Colt's, Springers, SiG and Kimber. YMMV.
