Credit Card Fraud - Beware!!

Hit with fraud on two different cards last week.

Card #1: Amex business card which we use for just about everything so we get the cash back deal. This card was on file with Amazon and the mail order pharmacy my insurance company makes us use.

Amex is very good about calling when they suspect a fraudulent charge and they called me about a $210 charge to Sprint which we didn't make. I suspect either the pharmacy or the waitress at the restaurnt stole the card number.

I get frustrated with Amex because of the number of merchants who don't accept the card (yes I know why), but I must say their customer service has been excellent. The people in customer service are based stateside and speak english. They had me a new card (complete with picture) the following day. I asked the gal what elese I could do to prevent this type of fraud and she said about the only thing is to not let the card out of my sight. Kinda hard to do in most sit-down restaurnat situations. She said she has worked for Amex fraud division for 9 years and she has seen more fraud in the last year than in the pervious nine years.

Card #2: BOA Visa we have had for 20 something years.
I wake up one morning to find an email saying to call them right away. $250 charge from virgin mobile, and two $3,000 charges to Nordstroms. Customer service didn't speak clear english and the replacement card takes 8-10 days.

-------^^^^^^------- so I know i'm behind times; I did know there were lots of places that would not honor Amex but, didn't know there was a specific reason. Can anyone enlighten me?

All I know is when I was getting into credit card processing if I wanted to accept Amex I was going to be paying more fees, I told them to forget it, as everyone I have seen has a visa card.

This is what the retailers who don't accept our Amex tell us as well.
