Is anyone using a Crossbreed Supertuck for their full-size 3rd Gen. Smith semi-autos? I have been thinking of getting one, and wasn't sure how they worked with the fullsize guns. Thanks in advance for any input and/or pictures.

It works great for my P226 -- not the model you asked about, but it's a full-size pistol.

I use a CrossBreed for a Gov't 1911 and XD Service Model and have been very happy. I ordered one today for my 4506; I'll let you know how it goes.

Look at Tucker Gunleather "The Answer" which is the first holster of that type. CompTac, M-Tac is another choice.

I do not like the crossbreed holster or the owner for that matter.
He actually charges more money to cut the leather so you can get your hand on the gun "combat cut", without that good luck drawing quickly. Keep in mind that the slide of some "full size" guns is not completely covered by the holster and if you wear Levi Jeans you have the chance of the small rivets near the pockets gouging the slide.

I will stop there, but you can do better than crossbreed.

Thanks SeaBee, I'd love to hear a report on how the Supertuck works with your 4506. Been thinking of one possibly for my 5906, as the Black Serpa just rides too low for me to do concealed carry well.

SuperTrucker thanks for the review and suggestion. I had questions regarding the "combat cut", and with all the outstanding reviews I had come across, no-one really pointed out any issues, and know that no product is the do-all. Will look into your suggestion of the Tucker "The Answer" series too.

I have Supertucks for my XDs, 1911s, and Kahr K9. They are more difficult to draw from without the combat cut, but you can always do what I did and make the cut yourself instead of paying extra for it. Takes about 30 seconds with a good sharp knife or some heavy duty shears. I have heard good things about the other holsters that Super Trucker recommends, but haven't seen the need to buy/try them.
While I like my Supertucks very much, not everyone does, so YMMV.

I carry my 3913 regularly in a Supertuck, and it works wonderfully. While it's not a full-sized 3rd Gen, I imagine the larger models will work just as well, especially in a lighter alloy-framed model like the 5903.

As for the "combat cut", it is not actually necessary in all cases. I wore it for a year or so without the combat cut, and had no problems with my draw after a little practice. You can still get a full firing grip on the gun with the full backing, it just requires a little more effort to push the backing away from the grip. I later did the "combat cut" myself in about 30 seconds with some shears, and while the draw is slightly easier now, it's not quite as comfortable over long periods of time, especially with rough-textured grips. I actually appreciate that he allows customers the option between giving the holster an edge in comfort, or an edge in ease of presentation, depending on their preference. Different strokes for different folks.

If you're a sweaty guy like me, I recommend the horsehide backing over the cowhide. I've sweated on my horsehide Supertuck through some long Arkansas summer days, with no problems so far.

And at this time, at least, the MTAC is not available for 3rd Gen S&Ws. I have one for my Sig P220R, though, and it works just as well as the Supertuck. The fit and finish is a little bit better than the Crossbreed, but it's also slightly bulkier.

I looked at Tucker's website just now, and they do not show that they make "The Answer" model for any of the full-size 3rd Gen S&W's. Which is a real shame, cause it does look like an excellent IWB holster.
