I have a new to me CS9 that had a very loose slide release. I have 2 other S&W 3rd gen pistols.

It was so loose that it fell out at some point & was lost. I could remove the slide release without moving the slide back.
Fortunately I have a 3913 that it looks like I can use the slide release from. I can't remove this slide release unless I move the slide back.
I am hesitant to use it until a replacement comes in as I would be out 2 guns if this fails.
It looks like the CS9S slide release assembly part no 209840000 at MidwayUSA should be the replacement (via the diagrams at Brownells) so I put it on order.

The recoil spring guide assembly looked like some plastic had been shaved off the tip so I ordered a replacement for that just in case.

I have a couple of questions. Did I order the right part for the slide stop assembly?
Is there anything I should check for on the pistol?

I didn't get many hits on loose slide searches so I am thinking this was a rare occurrence.

Did you check with SW ref part numbers?

or download the parts list.

if the detent is damaged on the guide rod, that may cause some retention issues, however it should not fall out when the gun is in battery.

either someone has modified or the wrong part was installed.

I wish I had the slide release to compare it.

I looked at the parts list. I think I missed the slide stop pin, plunger, & plunger spring if that doesn't come in a slide stop assembly.

for that price, it better come with everything.

if not, send it back and go through SW!

installing the small roll pin while holding the spring and plunger requires words that have not been used in years!!!!!!!!!

you got any pics?????

Here

That was the gun. I think I meant that I wish I had the slide release that fell out to compare to the good one.

Uh oh. I hope it comes assembled. Thanks!

fury,

the slide release on my CS9D is from a 3913. I did some heavy dehorning to remove all sharp edges.

the only thing I had to do to this lever was trim the inside arm as it was riding against the bullets and causing interference when removing mags that are loaded with ammo.

I probably have about 200 rounds through with no issues.

That looks sweet!

I got a slide release from numrich that turned out to be for a 3906. It works, but is too big & the last round doesn't leave the slide in the open position. It's great for making sure I am not flinching.
It also sticks out too far to holster.

Smith is backordered for 3913\CS9 slide releases & CS9 recoil spring assemblies (I am hoping I get a stainless one if I do get it. The plastic is all chewed up on the current assembly.)

The factory slide stop assembly for the stainless CS9 is:
209840000 $39.60 X SLIDE STOP ASSY

The factory slide stop assembly for the stainless 3906 (and standard 3913) is:
209840000 $39.60 X SLIDE STOP ASSY

Same part (same single column magazine width frame & same finish).

If you have a blued model it's a different part number (black finish, unlike the stainless finish on the stainless models). There's also a different one available for the NL & LS models in the 3913 series, FWIW, but I can't remember the difference offhand.

What do you mean the part you received is too big? It won't allow holstering? Is the shaft (pin) too long? Sticks out too far on one side? Are you sure they didn't send you a slide stop assembly for a 5906/6906?

The nylon plungers on the CS recoil guide rod assemblies do tend to get a bit chewed up after a while, but the stainless ones can make it a bit more difficult to remove in some pistols (the wider/thicker CS metal plunger sometimes requires more pressure to push it out of the recessed notch in the slide stop lever's pin, during disassembly, compared to the smaller plunger head in the standard 9mm guide rods). It's a toss up. I have both. I put the nylon plunger back in the rod on one of my CS pistols.

I must have recieved a the slide release for the 5906/6906. It was labeled 3906 on the order sheet, but that doesn't mean much.
The slide sits in the middle of the hump like the 5906. The 3913 & CS9 slide releases are under the slide.
It fits my 5906 & looks like it was made for it.
