Current Ammunition Situation

Seeing more with lower prices on my email but still expensive. Reloading prices per round are very high as well. Only shoot limited amounts currently.hoping for better times.

I actually found some .38 Special Fiocchi wadcutter for 26 bucks a box, which is pretty close to the pre-Chicken Little price. I was going to carry it in my Cobra until I read it chronographed at walking speed (550 fps), but providing it manages to force its way through a paper target it should be good range ammo.

I talked with a couple of small dealers over the last few days and they said they’re seeing some loosening. “Lower than Dirt” sent me one of their adds today with an only mildly exorbitant price on brass cased nines with a “limit” of ten boxes per customer. Maybe we’re on the route to recovery.

Ammo from days past

More pictures of the days to come, granted, in the future and most likely at prices NOT as yesteryear.

this one time a couple of weeks ago i saw like 300 20-round boxes of winchester 5.56 at a farm and fleet type store, but i don't have any guns that use them, and i'm not a reseller. my local range had pallets of thousands and thousands of 7.62 and took a while to sell all of it  i think it was steel cased barnaul, though. is rifle ammo in some calibers easier to find than popular handgun ammo?

One of the things I am taking away from all this-

I now have a pretty inexpensive (relatively speaking) AR in 7.62x39, tweaked to run the steel stuff.

I have never seen that become completely unavailable, and of all the different calibers around, it's held a reasonable price the best. A couple years ago you could get it for around $200 a case... right now you can get it for about $350 a case.
Meanwhile, 9mm brass, which also went for $200 a case, is now around $600.

The smart money says that the shortage will be over August 18, 2022. Be there or be square.

I think you are mistaken, but what is the significance of that date?
The pricing and availability of ammo, particularly of non-FMJ centerfire pistol ammo are gone forever.
I see a major shift in all types of centerfire pistol competition to rimfire, tactical included.

The "News " Lady on TV reported a , few minutes ago , that the entire shortage and high price was because Remington had to declare bankrupcy and due to Covid ( of course ) production of ammo was interrupted .
She said as soon as Remington got back up and running then there would be no more shortages and the prices would come down .

That's the biggest Cock-and-Bull Story I've ever heard ... the mainstream media might think they are reporting the news ... but that story isn't the real news ... a whole lot of the real story was left out ... if something isn't talked about (reported) then it didn't happen ...right ?

Remington's bankrupcy may have had a little to do with the shortage ... but it wasn't the whole reason ... and they laid blame 100% on Remington ... This reporting stuff makes me sick ...

I think availability is improving. Now we just have to wait until the prices come back down. But I don't think we will be seeing $9.95 a box any more for 9mm fmj.

I spoke with the owner of a LGS within the past week and was told he had to buy much of his ammo on the secondary market for the past year. Seems his regular wholesaler cancelled or indefinitely held much of his orders because he was low-volume. Recently, however, his regular channels are actually fulfilling his orders because of a slow but steady increase in supply and he no longer has to pay premium prices from the secondary market just to have something on his shelves.

I don't know how it is in the rest of the country, but I hope we have passed the peak and are on our way down, however gradual it may be.

We'll see; I wouldn't rule it out, but I also think it might be towards the end of 2022 before things finally get that low again.
And understand, $10 a box wasn't anything special, I usually tried to wait until things went to $8 a box. And yes, I picked up "a few" cases at that price.

I have enough to wait a couple years, if need be.
