Hello all, I' been scouring the internet for the past few days trying to find and answer to this, and coming up totally dry. Hopefully someone here will know;

Is anyone out there doing custom work on Smith and Wesson factory barrels? Let me give you an example of what I'm looking for. I recently came across a photo put up by forum member Carbohydrates of his Model 632-1. I'm hoping he won't mind me using it here for demonstration purposes (Again, this is a revolver and photo belonging to Carbohydrates, not me):

I would like to find out if it's possible to have a 3" or 4" full lug 686 barrel cut to look like that, with the upward taper on the underlug and the hole cut in the side over the ejection rod. I'm aware that the 686 Plus 5" , 627 Pro, and 686 SSR all have tapered underlugs with holes over the ejection rod. But I really like the looks of the tapered lug on a round barrel even better.

Before anyone gets too hung up on "why", there is really no good reason other than aesthetics. I think it looks really nice and would love a .357 to look like that. So I'm simply curious if that is even possible to have done, either by a custom smith or by the S&W Performance Center themselves.

Heck, even I could do that with my mill and a little polishing. If you 'like' that look then go for it. I like functionality and there is nothing to me about that modification that is functional. But, that is what makes 'Consumer Marketing' so appealing to some. .............

I have had SDM do work for me and it was outstanding.

They created a 5" 29-2 exactly to my liking, and it has become my favorite .44 by a wide margin.

Pictures, or it didn't happen. :D

All joking aside, I'd love to see a photo and hear what alterations you had done to it.
