Soooo, last week one of our number at work was complaining about a raging sore throat and all the other good stuff. Naturally, with American industry's attitude to sick days, he came to work to share the wealth. I first became aware of the full benefits of his generosity on Sunday when my throat started getting prickly.

Monday: sore throat, bloody stuff when I blow my nose. Ahh, the joys of a cold in a dry climate. Any exertion makes me feel clammy. Stopped by the bank and the teller said "Oh no, not you too!" Guess it's doing the rounds.

Monday night/Tuesday: some invisible gremlin is scrubbing my sinuses with a stainless .45 caliber bore brush.:( Went on the Mucinex and Sudafed PE diet.

Tuesday evening: stopped by the store and stocked up on OTC cold remedies like it was November in the Yukon. Theraflu Nighttime is good stuff.:)

Wednesday: somehow my brain is not quite so fuzzy, but I still get sweaty with any exercise. Blowing clear from my nose, but the stuff is rooted deep. After one good blow I swear my knees were thinner.:D

Thursday: pretty much back in order brain wise, but now I have Darth Vader's voice.;)

Looking forward to my flu shot in September.:)

Once you have had the flu you should now already have the anti bodies that a flu shot would give you. Your co worker was just trying to save everyone the price of a flu shot.

No such luck, this is just a particularly nasty strain of the common cold. I've had the flu, and this wasn't it.

Well I'll just go ahead and warn you, on behalf of all the rest of us, that what happens in Vegas should STAY in Vegas!

Glad you're feeling better, though.

I didn't realize a cold virus could even survive there, especially in the summertime!

Any cold, any time, is a royal pain in the ***. No cures. The stuff you can take to ease the symptoms make you feel groggy. You may end up with a cough you can't shake. And, the older you get the more it can bother you. The best thing you can do is rest, drink a lot of water and make sure it doesn't develop into something worse like pneumonia.

Steve, best cure for the "common" cold. two aspirin and three ounces of good scotch. Tape aspirin to forehand and down scotch. then sleep for 24-36 hours. Repeat as necessary.

I feel for you, just got over mine. Sinus infection into the lungs. Steroid shot in the butt and 10 days Cefdinir antibiotic that gave me raging diarrhea...

"that gave me raging diarrhea"
I think I would have rather dealt with the sinus infection

I am finally feeling a little better after 8 days with a cold. Began with a BLAH feeling, then a sore throat, then a cough...........dry at first, then throat loosened.
Salt water gargle and ADVIL helped. A product called OLBAS worked to clear sinuses. It's a peppermint oil product. I also tried an Amish salve that smelled like Vicks. Directions said to rub it on the soles of my feet to relieve sore throat and cough. Sounded weird, but I did it. Us old guys have to watch out for pneumonia.
Just got to thinking................wonder if a good rub down with Hoppes would have worked??!!
