What type of finish is on that 65? It looks parkerized....I just got a 65-3 that I was thinking about making into a slick carry gun, but don't really know what I want out of it yet...that finish gives me ideas

It's a duracoat gray. Engine 18 I had it cut from a 4" to a 3", frame bead blasted and dura coated, cylinder trigger hammer polished, hammer bobbed, and a tritium bead sight installed. It's kinda unique, a P&R square butt with a 3" barrel.

Here is a S&W model 19. Nothing special.
When I bought it the S&W had a cracked hammer, so I "bobbed" it. It also had no grips . Patrick Grashorn made the grips.
C&S Extreme rear sight installed.

Ken Kelley at Mag-Na-Port made this for me almost 20 years ago.

Complete Predator package, Trijicon sights and 11 degree forcing cone plus my own design of a twin ball bearing détente in the crane.

I've shown this one so much I'm a little embarrassed but it fits the topic as well as any I have ever found. It started out as a M25-2 in 1983. It was sent from the factory to custom gunsmith, John Jovino, in New York. Jovino cut the barrel to 2.75", replaced the front cylinder lock with a ball detent, rounded the butt and installed the S&W banana grips, smoothed the target trigger, and rounded the hammer. It's as nice and "comforting" a carry revolver as I've ever wrapped my hand around.

Here is a factory iteration of the "belly gun". Model 29-4 shipped in 1989. Round butt, unfluted cylinder, and 3" barrel. A real handful with full house Mags!

This one started out as a 28-2. Somewhere along the line it got stripped for parts and I bought the bare frame.
The barrel came from a 25-2 and the cylinder from a 25-5.
Topped it off with C&S Extreme duty sights.
Did all the work myself.

Customized 3 1/4" Model 28 Snubby in .45 Colt.

Bigger holes are better.

Grayfox, all the revolvers in this thread are great examples but yours, sir, is my favorite, a caliber I love and what I've long wanted in a carry revolver.

Agreed. Ever since I saw that photo of a cut-down 1917 that was a pseudo-Fitz, I have been thinking about a .45 snubby; but I want it in .45 ACP.

I would hesitate to whack a nice 1917, and the ones that I've seen with enough wear to not worry about that are priced too high (for my taste).

But I never thought about about taking a dis-used N-frame and MAKING one.

Very nice work, Grayfox. I have been a factory-certified armorer since 1987, so doing the work isn't intimidating; but finding a decent cylinder and yoke might be the issue.

I am more of a revolver guy but here is my one auto. Its a remington-rand highly customised by pachmyer in the 50s or 60s. Probley a little more bullseye than defense but it is highly accurate and dependable. It has micro sights, barrel and bushing. It also has fine checkering on the front and back of the grip frame. I have owned it since the late 60s. A old gun collector friend had it done.

Lsp- Theres a 25-3 barrel on GB now. Its a 6 1/2 ''. They have 45 ACP cylinders on there sometime too. Couple w/yokes at times.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm still trying to decide whether to grab the first 1917 that the seller isn't asking a king's ransom for, or score a beat-up M-28 and .45 barrel/cylinder/etc. to put one together.

What?!?!? A 41 mag in a 28 frame? Wow!...I knew that I should not have sold my old beater 28's....how did you get from 357 to 41 safely? Is that a 57/657 barrel that was mounted to the frame, or did you have it re-bored? and the cylinder? I assume that you could ream it out to 41 (like they do for the 44 specials)....send more pics! I LIKE that one...wanna sell it? ....heck, I would love to shoot it, it looks like a champ with that 3.5" barrel....just WOW
