I may be way behind the times here but I just discovered a guy who makes custom presentation cases in the old classic style.. also glass tops it seems.
I hope I’m not getting into infraction territory here but his Facebook name is goofymastiff mercantile for anyone interested.
I’m not sure that’s a real “collector” collector thing though? Maybe?
I’m going to have a case made for my 53 with extra cylinder, inserts tools and target hammer/trigger.
Should be a cool custom job.
Not too much $$ either.

There are a few guys out there still doing this more for love (of the art) than money. It really makes a great way to display that “extra special” gun one has, but in this day and age you still need a way to secure box and all to prevent it from “growing legs and walking away”.

Right. That’s the rub.
Do I need a safe to put it in every time I leave the house, and then pull out the presentation case and hang it on the wall again after I’ve unloaded the groceries?
No. That’d be ridiculous.
I’ll figure something out, but the 53 with all the stuff is kind of asking to be housed in a presentation case.

He does really nice work. When I got my Elmer Keith Commemorative (deluxe - first 100) the case had gone missing. I commissioned this fella to make me one for it - the results are shown.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

Thanks for the information! “goofymastiff mercantile” appears to make some really nice stuff. I especially like the highly figured wood, and the case that allows you to open it, that has a separate built in glass panel for display, is something that I would like. A few years ago, I bought a nice case for a Colt 1911 from Bill’s Cases. IIRC, he may be a member here, or maybe it was another forum I frequent, and he offered some for sale in the appropriate section of the forum for a special price.

There's a guy here in Missouri that makes custom display cases also. Sets up @ the Gateway Knife show and Washington Mo. Knife show. I'm sure he sets up a mid - large gunshows. Can't recall his name but is from around the Lake of the Ozarks area.

Presentation Cases go missing so I am not a fan of them but I have two that came with the revolvers.

Also besides deteriorating they can break.
