Now that all the negatives have been pointed out, enjoy this for what it is. Found at the Birch Run show this weekend in MI, lost in a display case with 40 assorted Saturday night specials, I missed it the first two times I looked them over. It is, of course, a Model 2, with a Civil War current serial, #20371. The assembly numbers on the barrel and frame match, rust has overcome the numbers on the cylinder but it really doesn't matter. The serial number is also scratched on the back of the right grip so I'm going to call them factory pearls unless a factory letter contradicts me. It has also been converted to center fire by drilling the frame and setting in a pin that is struck by hammer below the rim fire pin, which has been ground back enough to miss the cartridge rim. Not a trace of original finish anywhere but I assume it was blue as most were, again the letter will tell the tale. Notice the very fetching markings left on the barrel by the blacksmith's vise. Stunning! Snubbies of all sorts are what get me going, mostly factory, but these period conversions of antiques are sometimes even better.

That's a keeper! Many don't know it, but an undercover Pinkerton detective killed the first member of the James-Younger gang to die, when the detective pulled his hidden Model 2 Army revolver and opened fire on the gang. The detective died lated from wounds received in the gun fight with the gang. Maybe this was the detective's hide out gun? Ed.

Yep, very neat. Seriously considering hacking 4" off my 6" CW vintage. Bet I could make it look like an old bob job.

I love it. I would have jumped on that too if the price was right. Period conversion snub nosed revolvers are great. I've currently been turning some replica black powder guns into "Avenging Angels". This was a brand new Pietta 1851 Navy Colt Replica a week ago:
