Cylinder Extractor removal

I am looking for advice or good instructions for removing the extractor star on my Model 65-3, K-Frame cylinder. I have done a search and cant find anything- even on the internet. I have mastered detail stripping, so the cylinder is my last piece to learn. Planning on lightly chamfering the cylinders...

Any good pictures or diagram with instructions? This forum is awesome, thanks! Smiths rule...

Unscrew the ejector rod (clockwise to loosen) - remove the rod, center pin and spring. The extractor will lift right out. There is also another spring inside the extractor. Pay attention to how these parts look as they are disassembled. Reverse proceedure to reassemble.

DO NOT USE PLIERS, use a drill chuck instead and wrap a bit of masking tape to eliminate marking.
 
Put empty .38 cases (at least 3) in the chambers when you loosen or tighten the ejector rod. That will keep stress off the small locator pins.

The threads on modern S&W ejector rods are left-hand.

Remember that the rod is hollow and that you can collapse it with too much pressure. You can use a drill chuck to grasp the rod. If it slips, you will see the marks. There are specialty ejector rod tools that grasp the rod in the region inside the yoke so that slips don't show.

The ejector star itself is press fit on the back rod and is not generally disassembled from it, unlike the Colt ejector which is threaded on.

Thank you for all of your replies. I thought it had to be fairly simple, but obviously I didnt want to just start crankin' on it without knowing any special instructions. All of your replies were very helpful- thank you very much!

The trick of putting the ejector rod in a drill chuck was priceless. I figured out the proper direction to get it loose. With the ejector rod securely held in the drill chuck, gently turn the cylinder CLOCKWISE while looking at the rear of the cylinder. It didnt take much hand pressure and it was loose and easily removed.
