Cylinder Release & Screw

It is called the "thumb piece". It is retained by a nut, not a screw, it just is blind with a screwdriver slot. K and N Frame parts are the same. And the word is they're, a contraction for they are,not there!

There’s usually some on eBay. I usually just type in smith Wesson Thumbpiece. K/L/N are the same. J is smaller. Usually the stainless ones have a s on the back. Not sure on nickel

Is there a source for nickel thumb cylinder release and the small splined screw that holds it in place. Also are the K and N frame the same parts?

If you can find Nickel parts on eBay or from the usual sources at a reasonable price - go for it. If not, here is a great alternative method I'd recommend below......

Blued parts are relatively easy to find and usually a lot less expensive. Buy those and simply polish off the bluing. Finish up with Flitz and the high polished small parts will be indistinguishable from actual Nickeled parts. They will not rust because of the high polish you put on them and ultra smooth finish. I have done this for many years and it works perfectly!

I too had been looking for a Nickeled thumb piece nut for an inherited Chief's Special. After spending months looking, I gave up but had no trouble at all finding the same part that was blued. After doing what I described above, you could not even tell the difference. It has been on the gun for 17 years now and it is still bright, shiny and rust free. This works incredibly well with small parts and screws!
