I bought a Model 25-7 about 32 years ago. That's the N frame five inch barrel Smith in .45 Long Colt with unfluted cylinder. I never shot it. I would have a look at it yearly and oil the bore and cylinder, wipe it off and put it away again. Dry fired it about 20 times since owning it. Cylinder always opened properly. I decided to have a look at it last week. I attempted to open the cylinder and did so, but noticed that the screw holding the crane in place was protruding out of the frame, almost to the point of falling out. I tightened the screw down but did not tighten it very tight. Then, the cylinder would not open. I had to push the cylinder switch hard to the left and it still did not open. Thought I may have tightened the tiny screw too much so I loosened it back a bit. I still had to put pressure on that switch and push hard to the left. The cylinder opened. I close it and it would not open. I played with the screw for 10 minutes trying to see iof there was a sweet spot that would cause the cylinder to open easily like it did for over 30 years. I have tried over the last several days but can not open the cylinder on the first try. Have to push that slide switch hard to the left. It has gotten harder to push it to the side. Anyone have ay ideas as to why it takes such effort to simply open the cylinder. Called Smith on the phone and they suggested I sent it to them but it may take 9 months to get it back.
